DC announced this week that a whole host of comic books will now be available to read on their streaming service, DC Universe, over 20,000 of them. DC universe is a streaming site which offers a range of comics to read and TV shows to watch for a price of $7.99 per month or $74.99 for the year. Shows such as Titans, Doom Patrol, and Teen Titans are available to watch and before this announcement, their comic library contained a rotation of select titles. That’s now changed.

DC universe now has plenty of titles to choose from, 80 years worth. Making the monthly fee a lot more attractive to old and new fans alike. As stated, over 20,000 titles have now been added, with new issues following every month after a 12-month delay from their printed date.

Jim Lee, the chief creative officer had this to say about the mammoth addition:

“We are always looking for new ways to deliver our comics and reach the widest possible audience. The addition of more than 80 years of iconic superhero storytelling to DC Universe creates a seamless experience where fans can jump from their favorite DC show right into the comic it’s based on. Our goal was to create the ultimate digital comics library and we’ve done that with this DC Universe expansion.”

At the present time, the service is available in the United States only, so that’s me out of luck. Hopefully, it will expand to more regions soon, should it prove successful. The prospect of delving into a huge back catalog of comics from Batman, Superman, et al is rather an exciting one. Even the most avid of comic book fans cannot claim to have read each of the 20,000+ titles on offer, surely, and while there’s nothing better than holding a printed copy in your hands it’s great to have access to such a large library in one place.

What do you guys think? Are you excited by DC Universe, or do you have a subscription already? If you’re going to get one, what comics will you start with? Let us know in the comments.
