The next downloadable content for action platformer Dead Cells has been announced. The Bad Seed will release on February 11 for $4.99.

A listing for the DLC has gone live on the Microsoft Store, but at this time there are no other listings on other platforms.

The Bad Seed

In The Bad Seed, players will explore two new areas and fight challenging monsters. The Dilapidated Arboretum is a greenhouse filled with murderous mushrooms, while The Morass of the Banished is a noxious space inhabited by dangerous mutants.

The DLC also contains a new boss, Mama Tick. Developer Motion Twin hints that this new boss is reminiscent of a certain creature from the film Starship Troopers.

Instead of coming at the end of the game, the two new levels in The Bad Seed DLC will be mixed in with other levels in the early game. Motion Twin hopes that these new levels will add some extra challenge for those who have beaten the main game.

Dead Cells Sets New Direction with The Bad Seed DLC

The new DLC for Dead Cells also sets a new direction for the future of the game. While previous updates have come to the game for free over the past year, The Bad Seed will cost $4.99.

In the store listing, Motion Twin explains that by charging for The Bad Seed, they can hopefully use this to support future development for Dead Cells and other future games.

While in this day in age players are accustomed to free updates, it should not be a bad thing for developers to make money on extra work they are doing to support their games. Especially when they have gone out of their way to make their game better than originally entailed.

Motion Twin does hope that their community supports this idea going forward, but if they have opinions regarding it to reach out.
