Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer Beats a Record Set by No Way Home

People love Deadpool and Wolverine.

The Merc with the Mouth has not returned to the big screen, yet he has already reached a new milestone. The trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has broken the record for the most-viewed trailer in its first 24 hours, dethroning Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Tom Holland multiverse movie had 355 million views on its first day, but our favorite foul-mouthed anti-hero has scored 365 million views.

A mix of reasons has led to the world’s most popular character being overtaken by the MCU’s first rated R movie. For one, it debuted during the Super Bowl, one of the biggest events in America that sees major advertisements played to gather as many eyeballs as possible. The other is the hype for the third installment for the beloved character, who has not graced the big screen since 2018. Now, we will have him return with Hugh Jackman, reprising his role as Logan in the classic yellow costume from the comics.

Deadpool & Wolverine Breaks No Way Home Record for Most-Viewed Trailer in 24 Hours

The record was announced by Disney as it wears the R-rating with pride, even if it doesn’t like pegging, according to Wade Wilson. Other top viewership for trailers in 24 hours include the teaser trailer for Avengers: Endgame (289 million), the official trailer for Endgame (268 million), and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (257 million).

The MCU has faced its fair share of wins and losses post-Endgame. Bringing a fresh taste to the universe with two beloved characters could rejuvenate the perception of Marvel Studios. Even if it does not affect the larger scope of what the studio plans for the Multiverse Saga, Deadpool & Wolverine scoring the most-viewed trailer sets it up to have a massive theatrical run this summer.

Often, rated R movies don’t gross as much at the box office compared to a PG-13 rating. Deadpool has broken that record twice before as the first movie was the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time with $781 million. It did it again for the sequel, as it grossed $786. By having some extra star and character power, with connections to the MCU, it could outtake those that have surpassed the Ryan Reynolds films. Right now, the top-grossing movies for the rating are Oppenheimer ($959 million) and Joker ($1 billion).

Deadpool & Wolverine will be released on July 26.
