Desert Golfing may not seem like much, but it’s a game that has been blowing up my phone for years. The procedurally generated, never-ending golf game has been out since 2014, but it only now made the jump from mobile game to PC. You can pick it up now on Steam, and it will only set you back a couple bucks.
Desert Golfing is a simple, relaxing golf game. Each level is a single screen, and you adjust the angle and velocity of each shot, trying to land the ball in the hole in the fewest shots. Then you start another level. And another. And another. There are no pars, nothing out of the ordinary, and no end in sight. And it is freakishly addictive.
Every time you complete a hole, the game saves, adds to your overall score, and increases the hole number. And that’s it. In a way,ย Desert Golfing is the opposite of modern gaming. There are no flashy visuals, no speedrunning leaderboards, not even music. It’s just you, a desert, and golf. And, sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
Desert Golfing is the perfect game to relax you for a few minutes. For when you want to waste a little time without having to worry about loot boxes, leaderboards, or PvP. Sit back, play a few holes, exit, and come back to it later.
Or, in some cases, attempt that and get sucked in, playing it for several hours straight. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
Desert Golfing is developed and published by Captain Games and is available on Steam for $1.99. It is also still available for the same price on Android and iOS. It may not have made it to our game of the year voting, but I promise you can lose a lot of time to this one.
