Destiny 2 has kicked off its Heavy Metal event, which pits Guardians against each other in a unique way. Instead of doing the good old shooting on foot, you’ll pilot a mecha or a tank to blast each other to pieces. However, blasting other Guardians in a satisfying way isn’t the only reward. There are many items to claim during this limited-time event, including a new combat Sparrow. So, if you want a break from the dungeon-grinding, now’s the time to jump into a colossal machine to obliterate other players.

How To Start the Heavy Metal Event in Destiny 2

Contrary to other events, this one’s already up for everyone to join. You must head to the Tower or open your Directory to start queuing. We recommend the former, as you can visit Lord Shaxx to see all the rewards of this event and grab the bounties. Once you’re ready, just head to the Heavy Metal Supremacy option and launch the activity. You’ll be paired with other Guardians, but you can also bring your Fireteam to the fight.

Similar to other Destiny 2 events, Heavy Metal has a lot of rewards that range from materials to Engrams, banners, and more. However, the most coveted prize is the Rank 15 reward, which is the Gryphon Sparrow, a weaponized vehicle. All you must do to obtain it is play through the event, complete quests, and rank up. You can also buy Event Ranks with Silver if you have it, but you’ll miss out on the fun.

Aside from that, you can also use your Engrams to purchase weapons. Here’s the list of the Focused Decoding lineup:

  • Randy’s Throwing Knife Scout Rifle (3 Crucible Engrams)
  • Unending Tempest Stasis Submachine Gun (3 Crucible Engrams)
  • Retrofuturist Void Shotgun (3 Crucible Engrams)
  • Better Devils Strand Hand Cannon (3 Crucible Engrams)
  • Anonymous Autumn Arc Sidearm (3 Crucible Engrams)
  • Joxer’s Longsword Void Pulse Rifle (3 Crucible Engrams)
  • Crimson Plume Armor (3 Crucible Engrams per piece)

Furthermore, you can spend your event tokens in the Event Shop to get materials and Heavy Metal Engrams. However, the weapons aren’t that great, so you should stick to grinding the event to unlock the Sparrow, which is the ultimate reward.
