Chairman and CEO of Disney Bob Iger has officially revealed the name of their highly-anticipated streaming service. The service will be called Disney+ and it is set to launch sometime in 2019.

With its enormous library of movies, TV series, and characters, Disney hopes that their new service will compete with the likes of streaming juggernaut Netflix. What remains to be seen is if it will be able to produce the quality content necessary to succeed in the streaming industry.

Along with the name reveal, there were a few other announcements regarding content that will debut on Disney+. First on the docket is a Loki solo series starring Tom Hiddleston. This series has been heavily rumored for months and the God of Mischief will join Scarlet Witch, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier on the service in 2019. All of these shows are expected to have around “six to eight episodes” (per Variety).

Star Wars is expected to be a big part of Disney+ as well. Jon Favreau’s Star Wars: The Mandalorian will be a big budget project for the service and most likely will be apart of the service’s debut. Along with that, it was recently announced that Star Wars: Rogue One’s Cassian Andor will receive his own prequel series. Diego Luna is set to reprise his role as Andor.

Although there has been some speculation that canceled Marvel Netflix shows Luke Cage and Iron Fist would make a return on the new streaming service, it seems unlikely at this time. It looks like the plan is to use MCU characters that didn’t get the time to shine in the movies. Unfortunately, this leaves the Marvel Netflix universe in an unknown state with only Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and The Punisher left for Netflix. It’ll be interesting to see how Netflix reacts to Disney+ and if they decide to wash their hands from the Marvel brand altogether.
