The king of the monsters is back in the latest Toho Studios kaiju film, Godzilla Minus One. Written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Always: Sunset on Third Street, Parasyte) the film is a period piece that sees Godzilla take on post-war Japan in 1945. Minus One follows Kōichi Shikishima, played by Ryunosuke Kamiki (Your Name, Summer Wars), a kamikaze pilot who is racked with guilt after surviving the war, and an encounter with Godzilla. You might be wondering if the movie has anything extra after the credits, so let’s find out if Godzilla Minus One has a post-credits scene.

As soon as the credits begin you can feel free to get out of your seat, as Godzilla Minus One does not have a post-credits scene. If you’re interested in waiting until the very end, when Yamazaki’s credit pops up, you will hear more of Godzilla’s footsteps and one final roar. But, that isn’t an actual scene, so if you need to go to the bathroom, or you want to get out of the parking lot quickly, you can do what you need to.

Just because Godzilla Minus One doesn’t have any post-credits scenes that set up a sequel, doesn’t mean that there won’t be one coming. There are a couple of plot threads introduced at the end of the film that we won’t spoil here, but they hint at a possible sequel. However, it doesn’t seem as if any sequel would be as convoluted as the Legendary Godzilla sequels. What would they call it, Godzilla Minus Two? Or Godzilla Zero? Either way, it does seem like this won’t be the last Godzilla movie helmed by Takashi Yamazaki.

In fact, the filmmaker hinted towards another film as covered by Sankei Sports, when he said “I wanted to make one more movie. I wonder if you can give me one?” (Note, source was translated from Japanese.)

Godzilla Minus One has been getting some stellar reviews, so it would be great if Yamazaki could turn around and deliver a sequel of a similar quality. If that news wasn’t enough to make a kaiju lover smile, there is also a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong set to release in 2024. But, you can catch Godzilla Minus One when it roars into theaters on December 1, 2023.
