Does Inside Out 2 Have a Post-Credits Scene?

You might be feeling some anticipation

After nearly a decade, Pixar has made a sequel to one of their most successful films. Inside Out 2, directed by Kelsey Mann, follows Riley’s emotions from the original film as they brush up against new ones that arrive as Riley starts puberty. Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), Phyllis Smith (The Office), and Lewis Black (Man of the Year) all return. They’re joined by Maya Hawke (Stranger Things), Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), and Tony Hale (Veep). Pixar movies usually have something after or during the credits, so let’s take a look and see if Inside Out 2 has a post-credits scene.

You’ll want to stay in your seat for the entirety of the credits because Inside Out 2 does have a post-credits scene. In fact, it has two. The first takes place right after the credits begin to roll while the second plays once all the credits have finished. The original Inside Out also had a sequence play out while the credits were playing, so it’s not surprising that the sequel does as well. Both post-credits scenes are additive and might answer questions that you have about the movie, so you’ll want to stick around for them.

While they’re comedic stingers, the post-credit scenes are directly related to the plot of the movie. Neither scene sets up a sequel, but they don’t really need to. The progression between Inside Out and Inside Out 2 feels natural, and it’s fairly easy to see where a third entry in the franchise could go. The first movie’s post-credit scene didn’t tease a second film. Instead, it showed what the minds of other side characters look like, an idea that is expanded upon in the sequel.

As for whether or not we will get an Inside Out 3, the chances seem high. Inside Out 2 is projected to be the highest opening weekend of 2024 so far, and the first movie is the sixth highest-grossing Pixar film. So, if the second one makes as much money as the first one did, Disney will probably go back to the well at least one more time. Not that there’s much of a downside to doing so if they can come up with a good story for the next one.

You can see Inside Out 2 in theaters starting June 14, 2024.
