Dragon Age: The Veilguard Has Silenced All Non-Believers With Its Explosive New Trailer

Veilguard, assemble

I know what you’re thinking, “Dragon Age: The Veilguard had a bit of a misleading first trailer.” We were all there. Heck, I even admit that the first look at this upcoming game was a bit strange. But not anymore. Just like many other non-believers, the release date trailer for Dragon Age‘s next installment eliminated all my doubts and got me extremely excited about what’s coming. Added to that, we have many callbacks to the series, important plot points, and even the return of everyone’s favorite goth waifu. What else do we need?

Let’s get something out of the way first: the release date for Dragon Age: The Veilguard is October 31, 2024, according to the new trailer. Yes, it is much closer than we thought. My money was in December, but I’m happy to know I’ll spend the spooky season around a new group of eclectic companions.

I won’t go into many details about what might be coming to the story (because it might be speculation), but it seems things are going down hard for our Rook and their companions. As you can see, this new escapade revolves around defying the Gods. To do so, we’ll have to assemble our Avengers-like group, or The Veilguard, to take the fight to them. Again, I’m reading too much about the obvious things we saw in the trailer. However, since Dragon Age is a franchise encompassing many lovable characters, BioWare has given us a healthy dose of fan service.

Out of all the returning characters we saw in the first trailer, a “new” one is coming to this adventure, and she has aged like fine wine. Before we had Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, the one and only gothic waifu title belonged to Morrigan, and, my fellow adventurers, she is back. In what capacity? It’s uncertain, but she’ll be around, and that’s more than I could ask for.

Fan service aside, pre-orders for the game are up already. If you want to get Dragon Age: The Veilguard for PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S, you can head to the official site to secure your spot. There’s also a collector’s edition going at a price of $150 USD. It does not include the game, but it has a few other goodies, such as a map, a deck, and other items to immerse yourself in this adventure.

While the first trailer gave us a weird first impression, this one has quelled the masses. You only need to look at social media to see the positive reactions to it. Yes, the gameplay might be taking a drastic new approach, but that doesn’t mean it will be bad. On the contrary, franchises have to evolve, and I’m happy to see this one try new things. All that remains is to save the date for it to arrive and prepare for a new epic adventure.
