  • Should You Help Raghnall or Simon in DD2?

If there’s one thing you can count on in Dragon’s Dogma 2, it’s quests with consequences, like Tensions of the High Road. It’s not always immediately apparent and may not even come into play until later. This one in particular has you choosing sides: Do you side with Raghnall or Simon? The problem is, unlike the quest Hunt for the Jadeite Orb, you can’t wait forever to make a choice.

Tensions of the High Road Quest Walkthrough

To start Tensions of the High Road in DD2, you’ll have to first complete the quest Welcome to Battahl over in Bakbattahl. If you pass by the Wanderer’s Haven Inn, you’ll meet the sellsword Raghnall, then have to battle a few locals. Afterwards, whenever you’re in Vernworth or Checkpoint Rest Town, a guard by the name of Simon requests your help escaping Ser Augustin.

Now, Tensions of the High Road goes down like this:

  • You accept the escort orders and make for Checkpoint Rest Town
  • Shortly after the journey begins, Raghnall will appear and attack the guards
  • You’re then given a choice: help Raghnall or the guards

So first things first: getting to Checkpoint Rest Town. The easiest way is to hop onto an ox cart at Vernworth, specifically the one at the west gate, by the bridge. It’ll take you straight to Checkpoint Rest Town. If it’s your first time visiting, avoid the apothecary because it’ll trigger another escort quest, Prey for the Pack.

Cross the bridge outside Checkpoint Rest Town and speak with Simon to get the escort moving. Immediately after, Raghnall will appear to halt your progress

Should You Help Raghnall or Simon in DD2?

There’s no two ways about it: you should help Raghnall. He’s a little secretive at first as to why it was the better choice, but simply put: Simon was planning to use you as a scapegoat for the death of Ser Augustin.

He’ll give you the dirty details if you follow him and Ser Augustin. Follow him into the nearby forest to Guerco Cavern.

Be mindful of the tall grass; choppers use these to ambush you. Keep your shield up or burn the grass with fire to destroy their cover. Oh, and be sure to grab the Golden Trove Beetle on the tree before you enter the forest to increase your carrying weight. After that, it’s a straightforward path through the cave. You’ll find Raghnall inside, along with saurians

Once you and Raghnall escape the Guerco Cavern in DD2, that’ll be the end of Tensions on the High Road and you’ll be awarded 12000 gold for your trouble.
