In an effort to help you take your rightful place as King in Dragon’s Dogma 2, Captain Brant asks you to complete a series of assignments, one of which revolves around freeing Magistrate Waldhar from the Vernworth Castle dungeon. But true to the Arisen’s luck, doing so will not be as easy as it seems. Here’s how to complete The Caged Magistrate Quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

How to Complete The Caged Magistrate Quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2

After talking to Brant and accepting the quest, you will be able to complete The Caged Magistrate in Dragon’s Dogma 2 by making your way to the Vernworth Castle Gaol Tower during the night. Although the area will be heavily guarded, you will be able to waltz into both the Palace grounds and the gaol without being noticed by using a full Marcher’s Set. You can check out the tower’s location in the image below.

Once inside the tower, head down and then to the first cell on the right to talk to Waldhar, who will surprisingly refuse to leave unless you find a place featuring “a mountain of tomes.” To do that, you must head to the Slums and then trigger and complete The Heel of History quest.

Upon completion of The Heel of History, return to the Gaol Tower and tell Waldhar about the newfound library before escorting him out through the gate located in the spot marked below. Once he leaves, report back to Brant at Stardrop Inn to complete the quest. Completing The Caged Magistrate will reward you with 1200XP, 7000G, and one Ferrystone.

Once at the Slums, you can trigger The Heel of History quest by talking to Kendrick, who will be asking for donations, as showcased in the image below. Every time you speak to him, the Arisen will be given the choice to donate either Gold or food. After you make two donations, the quest will be triggered.

Now, you will be able to progress through the quest by talking to three specific NPCs—a girl named Aimee, a boy named Harvey, and a man named Rick. You can check out the locations of all of them below.

After talking to the NPCs above and getting a pretty good idea of Malcolm’s whereabouts, report back to Kendrick, who will guide you to the entrance of The Gracious Hand Vaults. Once in the area, just head to the highlighted spot to find Malcolm and then follow him to complete the quest. There’s no need to worry about enemies while exploring the vaults, as although the area will feature large spiders and nightmarish huge rats, they will be inconsequential.
