It seems that some people still struggle to see fast food workers as fellow human beings. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to hear stories about these workers being yelled at or mistreated by customers. While there’s an old saying that the customer is always right, that really only applies to matters of taste or service. It certainly does not excuse abusive behavior. Sadly, another incident like this recently occurred in Dallas, Texas. It involved a man in a red car and a teenage drive-thru worker.
The entire event was recorded on a dashcam by Reddit user zughzz. In the video, you can see the redditor waiting in line behind the red car at the drive-thru. Everything seemed normal at first as the teen worker handed the man his order.
It’s unclear exactly what happened between the two since the video only captures audio from inside zughzz’s car. What appears to have happened is that the teen may have forgotten to give the customer his receipt. Possibly irritated, the Dallas man crumpled the receipt into a ball and threw it at the worker. As if that were not enough, he then threatened to beat the teen up.
Thankfully, the situation did not escalate further. The man drove away, and zughzz pulled forward. She told the teen worker she was sorry that had happened and that he did not deserve to be treated like that. The worker simply replied with a quiet thank you.
User zughzz also uploaded the video to the Dallas subreddit, where it quickly gained attention from internet users. Many people criticized the man for his actions, calling it an overreaction and completely unnecessary. One commenter wrote, “Why are people so rude? Like everyone is just trying their best to survive ffs. Feel so bad for the kid.”
Others said they weren’t surprised at all, with some sharing that they had lived in the area and had seen similar behavior before. They described a sense of entitlement and snobbery among certain residents, saying it often feels like they treat the entire town as their own personal gated community.
Another user shared, “I used to work at a Braum’s from 16 to 19, this isn’t uncommon. People suck and think fast food workers deserve to be treated like that.”
Some mocked the man for his outburst, calling him emotionally immature and incapable of basic self-control. One user joked, “As he’s driving away AND to a kid. Real big tough guy energy coming from that car. He’s on his way home to rub his momma’s feet.”
