Despite various difficulties over the years, the headlining gaming showcase E3 plans to return in 2023. Dealt several blows over the last few years with multiple cancellations and controversies, the event has struggled to maintain its relevance. Additionally, like many other events, E3 has suffered from the recent Covid pandemic, and with added controversies, it’s been difficult for the industry showcase event.

The Return of the Yearly Gaming Industry Showcase

Even with the various setback, E3 is poised to return. According to a Washington Post Interview with the ESA President and CEO Stan Pierre-Louis, the iconic event will return next year.

“We’re excited about coming back in 2023 with a digital and an in-person event,” Pierre-Louis told the Washington Post. “As much as we love these digital events, and as much as they reach people and we want that global reach, we also know that there’s a really strong desire for people to convene — to be able to connect in person and see each other and talk about what makes games great.”

E3 event stage with crowd

E3 has been an ongoing event since 1995, its origins in Los Angeles, California, a 50,000-person closed event that would become the epicenter of all things gaming in the coming years. Since then, the iconic event has dealt with controversies that would disrupt things, including announced restrictions on the live streaming of E3’s 2021 digital-only gaming showcase. And let’s not forget the “friend-finding” feature, which reveals the personal data of its users.

At this point, time will only tell if this iconic gaming showcase will be able to make its return as many of the other events have shifted to a digital-only showcase. However, as the world slowly starts to open itself back up, some will be pleased to see the hopeful return of the gaming staple for the industry and gamers in general. If you want to keep up with any announcements regarding E3, you can find out more on their event website.
