A great tool when facing all types of Tree Spirits and other enemies weak to fire roaming the Lands Between, having a few Oil Pots in your person is a must in Elden Ring. But how can you get your hands on them? For all looking to add another tool to their arsenal, here’s how to get all types of Oil Pots in Elden Ring, as well as how to best use them.

You can get two types of Oil Pots in Elden Ring, the regular one and the Roped Oil Pot. Both pots can be mainly acquired through crafting, but their recipes will only become available after you obtain the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook 17. The cookbook can be purchased from the Siofra River Abandoned Merchant for 1000 Runes. After getting the item, you will be able to craft the pots by using the ingredients below. You can also check out the exact location of the merchant in the following section.

  • Oil Pot: 1x Melted Mushroom and 1x Empty Cracked Pot
  • Roped Oil Pot: 1x Melted Mushroom, 1x Empty Cracked Pot, and 1x String

Where to Find the Siofra River Abandoned Merchant

You can find the Abandoned Merchant and purchase the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook 17 in Elden Ring by first heading to the Worshippers’ Woods Site of Grave. Once there, head south toward a series of wooden structures and then a platform your way to the room featured in the image below.

Apart from our desired cookbook and its following volume, you will also find a Larval Tear among the merchant’s wares. Be sure to buy it, as you will be able to use it to respec an extra time.

The Best Way to Use Oil Pots in Elden Ring

As hitting enemies with Oil Pots will increase the fire damage of your next attack against them by 50%, they are best used as a complement for Arcane or Incantation-focused builds. But that does not mean you cannot use them while having no magical affinity. For example, they can be paired with flaming projectiles for a good deal of damage.

On that note, using the Companion Jar Talisman is a must for those looking to make use of pot combinations. The talisman will boost the damage of your pots by 20% and can be acquired by completing the Jar-Bairn questline. You can check out how to complete their quest in our Where to Find Jar-Bairn and Complete Their Quest guide.

You can play Elden Ring on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. Its first and only DLC expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree will become available on June 20, 2024.
