During Emma Heming’s recent Instagram story, she shared a cryptic message with her followers by sharing a photo depicting the family’s many emotions.
It has been nearly two years since The Sixth Sense star was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. FTD is a rare condition that causes problems with behavior and language as it progresses and impacts memory and physical ability.
Symptoms can be managed with medications and various therapies. However, unfortunately, there is no cure for FTD, and life expectancy ranges from 3 to 7 years following diagnosis.

Since Bruce Willis’ diagnosis in 2023, his family rarely leaves his side. Emma, their two young daughters, Mabel and Evelyn, and his three adult daughters, Rumor, Tallulah, Scout, and ex-wife Demi Moore, have formed a strong family bond, and each sees that Bruce is well taken care of.
Emma’s Instagram story reveals a diagram with the caption “Looks about right.” It includes the words “anxious,” “nervous,” and “confused.”
Emma is always very open about Bruce’s condition. She and the Willis women often publicly share the family’s ups and downs and the harsh realities they face.
The social media post reveals the emotions that the family faces daily, indicating that, above all, they always remain hopeful. While Bruce Willisโ condition is heartbreaking and affects the entire family, Emma works hard to advocate for patients and caretakers dealing with the incurable disease.
In 2025, the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD) will honor her with an award for her efforts in raising awareness of FTD. She hopes that sharing Bruce’s story will help raise awareness for others.
Taking It Day By Day
I’m trying to find that balance between the grief and the sadness that I feel, which can just crack open at any given moment. What I learned from our therapist was that if children ask questions, they’re ready to know the answer.
We can see that Bruce is struggling. I address it with the kids so they can understand, but this disease is chronic, progressive, and terminal. There is no cure.
“Obviously, I don’t like to speak about the terminal side of this with them, nor have they asked. They know that daddy’s not going to get better,” she explained during an interview with Town & Country.
Bruce Willis is currently in a stable environment. However, the actor’s condition requires 24/7 home care. A team is available around the clock to help supervise and ensure he’s OK and doesn’t get confused or frightened.
Sadly, Bruce Willis’ loved ones understand the disease has progressed. They are at the point where they worry they may not have much more time left. The Willis family is determined to make the most of the time they have left together. “I’m not going to allow FTD to take our whole family down. Bruce wouldn’t want that,” states Emma Heming Wills.
