Bethesda has confirmed that mods on the console versions of Fallout 4 will be more streamlined than the PC version. All users will have to do is click on a mod that they would like to install and the mod will begin downloading.

Pete Hines, vice president of public relations for Bethesda, spoke with Major Nelson about Fallout 4 and what lies in store for the future of the game. Hines revealed during the interview that Bethesda has wanted to bring mods to consoles since the release of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind back in 2002.

Mod support for the console versions of Fallout 4 was announced earlier this year at E3. Now that the game is out, the mod support will be the next thing that players will be looking forward to. That’s why Bethesda wants to make the installation of mods be as simple as possible. The process should work similarly to the simple process that we have nowadays of downloading DLC. “We do it in a way that’s easy,” Hines reveals during the interview. “I get asked this a lot on social media and Twitter. This is not about, ‘You have to have a PC and you have to do it yourself.’ The idea is you go to play the game and there’s a menu option and you click on it and there’s just a bunch of stuff for you to download. You click on the stuff you want and you start playing the game with these new mods. We want it to be a really streamlined, fun experience.”

The tricky part that Bethesda is currently trying to figure out is how players will be able to retrieve mods from BethesdaNet. The company is also currently trying to create a user-friendly experience prior to releasing the game’s mod creation tools early next year.

Fallout 4 is now available on the PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
