Ubisoft’s Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is the newest game to receive the backwards compatibility treatment on Xbox One. It joins a long lineup of more than 200 games, plenty of which are fan-favorite titles. One thing of note: Microsoft releases new games into their backwards compatibility lineup as they are ready, not necessarily all at the same time. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon was first released back in May of 2013 for the Xbox 360, and the release came just six months before the Xbox One made its big debut and kicked off a new generation of console gaming.

Do not be fooled. Blood Dragon may look like an 80’s high-action movie parody, but it is so much more than that. It is an 80’s high-action movie parody set in dystopian-2007 that takes place on a futuristic open-world island. In other words, this game had no choice but to be an instant cult favorite when it came out. Despite the game’s comedic, yet intriguing concept, it did not debut without skepticism.

Blood Dragon is an expansion of the heavily popular Far Cry 3, but it is also a standalone game, so it is not necessary to have played Far Cry 3 beforehand. The story of Blood Dragon is as simple as it is unique. As an American cyborg solider, Sgt. Rex “Power” Colt (voiced by Michael Biehn), players navigate this futuristic world, a world ravaged by nuclear war, in order to find new means of bringing about peace. Despite this primary mission of the game, there are also several side quests to tackle.

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is roughly 3gb. For gamers who already own a digital copy from their Xbox 360, the game will show up automatically in your Xbox One library. If you somehow missed the opportunity to play as Sgt. Colt back in 2013, then the game can be purchased for 15 USD. Just in case that is not enough Blood Dragon news for you, Trials of the Blood Dragon was released a few weeks ago, and is also available on Xbox One.
