The Excavation Intel that you find in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth comes as a result of scanning in Expedition Intel. These intel locations provide you with new, craftable chips that can be used to transmute new items. To level up your craftsmanship in the game, you’ll want to find all these spots as soon as possible. Before you can do that, however, you need to have the region’s chocobo to sniff out where the intel is in each location. You can check out all of the other intel locations across different regions in our complete guide to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

You only have access to these points on the map by checking out lifespring Expedition Intel. To find the intel once you arrive at these locations, you’ll need a chocobo to sniff out the location of where it needs to dig. As you dig around each of these locations, you’ll be able to craft more items, accessories, and more in the Item Transmuter. Each of these locations offers a different upgrade number, meaning you can’t craft those things until you reach that Craftsmanship Level. Open up the Main Menu and go into the Item Transmuter to see everything you can craft after each location’s completed.

Grasslands

The Grasslands has two Excavation Intel locations for you to find after scanning in all the Expedition Intel locations. Getting the chocobo from this region is part of the story, so you don’t need to worry about doing that before unearthing them. One of these locations is at the edge of the wasteland area while the other is closer to the city of Kalm.

  • Excavation Intel 1: Bygone Settlement
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 1
    • Transmuter Chip: Windmill Gear
    • Transmuter Chip: Cushion
  • Excavation Intel 2: Pipeline Depository
    • Transmuter Chip: Basic Accessories
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 2
    • Transmuter Chip: Camaraderie Earrings

Junon

Junon only has one Excavation Intel location for you to pull intel from. Make sure you’ve got the chocobo of this region before you unlock this location.

    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 3
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 4
    • Transmuter Chip: Psychic’s Charm

Corel Region

The Corel Region has two locations that you can excavate from. The Excavation Intel Locations are both in the north area of Corel, near Costa del Sol. You have control of both the Buggy and the region’s chocobo when looking for the second intel location, but you’ll need the chocobo to sniff it out.

  • Excavation Intel 1: Valve Factory Ruins
    • Transmuter Chip: Upgrades 5
    • Transmuter Chip: Advanced Accessories
    • Transmuter Chip: Boiler Valve
  • Excavation Intel 2: Deserted Village
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 6
    • Transmuter Chip: Karmic Cowl
    • Transmuter Chip: Bird Trap

Gongaga

Gongaga Excavation Intel

The Gongaga region also has two Excavation Intel locations. One is on the west side of the map while the other is on the east side. The landscape can be pretty convoluted, so I recommend getting the region’s chocobo even before you need one to excavate this intel. Fortunately, you automatically get one after completing the tasks within the village of Gongaga.

  • Excavation Intel 1: Mako-Laden Canyon
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 7
    • Transmuter Chip: Supreme Accessories
  • Excavation Intel 2: Wildgrove Ruins
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 8
    • Transmuter Chip: Malboro Orb
    • Transmuter Chip: Immunity Accessories

Cosmo Canyon

There are two Expecidion Intel Locations in Cosmo Canyon. Between the two, you’ll pick up enough chips to craft items up to the tenth level! The area has so many chocobo takeoff points littered around. Considering that, I hope that I don’t need to tell you to grab the region’s chocobo as soon as you can.

  • Excavation Intel 1: Dilapidated Ship
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 9
    • Transmuter Chip: Advanced Items
    • Transmuter Chip: Healing Carcanet
  • Excavation Intel 2: Cosmo Range Ruins
    • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 10
    • Transmuter Chip: Draconic Ring
    • Transmuter Chip: Safety Bit

Nibel Region

The Nibel Region only has one Excavation Intel location. It makes sense, considering how small the region is. It’s located on an island so, you need the region’s chocobo anyway to even get there.

  • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 11
  • Transmuter Chip: Armor Upgrades 12
  • Transmuter Chip: Expeditionary Medal
