The long-awaited next entry in the series is going to take a little longer to release.ย Final Fantasy XV, which has been in development since 2006, will now release on November 29, 2016. This is a two-month delay from the last announced release date of September 30, 2016.
According to Gamenesia, this delay can be corroborated by images obtained from GameStop. Apparently,ย GameStop will use the already existing promotional materials forย Final Fantasy XV, but will just cover the current release date with a sticker advertising the new date.
Final Fantasy XV is not actually the fifteenth game in the series, as there have been spinoffs and sequels to specific games (such as the confusingly namedย Final Fantasy X-2). It is a return to the single player, story driven RPG after the MMO style ofย Final Fantasy XIV. As is usually the case with a newly numbered game in the series,ย Final Fantasy XV will bring some serious changes to the table.
The story ofย Final Fantasy XV follows the story of Noctis Lucis Caelum, heir to the kingdom of Lucis. He and a group of soldiers set out to win back his homeland after it is seized by the empire of Niflheim. One can assume, in typicalย Final Fantasy fashion, that this quest will turn into something much bigger involving the fate of the world. Whereย Final Fantasy XV most seems to differ from other games in the series is in its new battle system, dubbed the “Active Cross Battle System.” This system involves players mapping certain actions to certain buttons on the controller, allowing for dynamic fights in real time. Players will only control their main character, but will be able to issue commands to allies. The fighting system is much more reminiscent of something likeย Kingdom Hearts rather than the traditional, turn-based fighting of most JRPGs.
