It’s no secret that wearable technology has started to really take hold of the consumer.  People really enjoy the ease and the functionality of the Fitbit and Apple Watch.  For those people who really enjoy fitness, the Fitbit is an essential item.  The watch counts steps, levels, weight goals, and other very useful functions for the athlete at heart.  Meanwhile, the Apple Watch allows the user to engage in hundreds of functions right off their hand.  How cool is that?

Well unfortunately not all is rosy in the world of fashionable wear.  In a recent collection of tweets and posts from users, the Cult of Mac website has revealed that many people are now breaking out in rashes from the Fitbit and Apple Watch.  Some of the pictures are pretty gross, with one user in particular sporting an enormous red blotch wrapping all the way around his wrist.  Several reasons have emerged regarding why this is happening.  First, and the most obvious of all is that users are simply wearing the watch too tight.  It doesn’t take a scientist to determine that a foreign object wrapping around the skin will likely cause some form of negative reaction.  Second, some users may be wearing the items too loose.  When this happens, dirt and other foreign objects can get into the gap and cause irritation.  Third, people may potentially be allergic to nickel.  Any form of a watch will cause reactions by those who cannot handle the element.  Finally, a small amount of speculation has surfaced about the items “overheating”, causing a kind of burning on the skin.  Whether or not that is true is one thing, but it’s an interesting theory none the less.

If you want to view some of these pictures, please take a trip over to The Cult of Mac, or do a quick Google search on the matter.  And remember, no matter what type of watch you wear, it’s always a good idea to give your skin a break here and there!

(Thanks to The Cult of Mac for the news on this somewhat gross topic.)
