A dog adoption center in Miami-Dade County, Florida has come under fire due to startling footage of a huge cockroach infestation inside the kennels. The shocking video is circulating online right now, and reveals a roach infestation where the sick dogs are typically kept when they are quarantined. Be warned that the following footage may be distressing for some viewers.
The video clip was originally posted to Instagram by Miami-Dade government accountability advocate cleanupmiami_ragomonkey, and is accompanied by the caption, “URGENT: Roach Infestation Overruns Local Dog Shelter-EVERYONE at Risk“. It’s narrated by a woman who helps describe what’s going on in the footage.
This is despicable. This is Miami-Dade Animal Services Department. The dogs that are sitting all the way in the back of the shelter at Durral. These are supposed to be the sick dogs that are quarantine. Look at the amount of roaches. This is an infestation. This is a serious health hazard for the dogs and for the employees as well. There is no excuse for this. This is where our tax money is going. Look at this and share this. Please.

While the beginning of the video shows dozens of roaches crawling around the kennels and the walls, the end of the clip is particularly shocking as it reveals swarms of cockroaches conjugating in the corners of the corridor and the kennels, with a white doggo sat in one of the cages.
Social media reactions to the clip have been scathing. Over on Reddit, one user wrote, “Please lets start forwarding this to all news stations“, while another chimed in with, “No way am I working in those conditions, and Iโm a construction worker. Theyโre probably bringing home some hitchhikers everyday“. Meanwhile, one user on Instagram simply penned, “This is abuse“.
However, one sensible Redditor described how the best way to deal with this situation is to “put your money where your mouth is” and donate to the dog shelter directly or volunteer to help. Specifically, they wrote: “If you truly care about the dogs. Donate them money so they can hire someone to properly clean out these kennels twice a day with the correct chemicals and build more facilities. Screaming online putting them on blast with your fake outrage might make you feel like you are on moral high ground but all your doing is getting the place shut down and all those animals you pretend to care about so much will be murdered. Put your money where your mouth is“. If you’re interested in donating, there’s a link here, and if you’re interested in volunteering, there’s a link here, too.
Hopefully, the Miami-Dade dog shelter can get the support they need to give the center a deep clean so that those doggos can be looked after safely and humanely. They deserve better than this.
