Rainy Night Creations has announced the worldwide release of FreezeME on Steam and Humble Store (Win, Mac and Ubuntu). FreezeME is a 3D platformer inspired by N64-era games like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie. FreezeME has a unique twist on its gameplay though that separates it from these classics. “R”, the main character, has a special tool – the camera around her neck. This camera allows her to literally freeze the objects she photographs.

This protagonist “R,” is described by the developer as “a brown-eyed moppet with a camera around her neck”. The story has R on the trail of her best friend, “M,” who has been abducted by the villain Fat the Cat. Fat the Cat is out to create a “Free-Dog-World,” and exactly how kidnapping M will help him with this goal remains something of a mystery, but R is determined to thwart him by rescuing M from his clutches.

In order to gain access to Fat the Cat’s lair, where he is holding M, R needs a special key. The key must be forged from pieces of an ancient material, which can be collected as yellow cubes. As R collects the pieces of ancient material, she will unlock new areas, and ultimately find enough pieces to assemble the key and enter the final boss’s lair to save her friend.

The developer lists the following game features in their official release.

  • 4 vast worlds to explore.
  • Non-linear progression.
  • A wide variety of different gameplay situations and mechanics.

This is the indie developer Rainy Night Creations first project, and they began the development back in 2012. The game has had an interesting history with an unsuccessful Kickstarter Campaign, but the developers were not dissuaded. As a result, we can finally play it in just a few days. For more information on it be sure to check out the game’s official site found here.
