Even though fast food restaurants feature high-resolution images of food items on the menu, it’s largely understood that these are intended to be a representation of what you’re going to get, rather than a perfectly accurate picture. That didn’t stop this ‘Karen & Karl‘ from angrily demanding a refund for their food because it didn’t look exactly like the picture. The incident happened in a Colorado Taco Bell recently and was caught on camera by a witness.
The video is recorded by another customer at the Taco Bell based in Littleton, Colorado where the incident took place. The Reddit post is accompanied by the description, “A couple complained and asked for the refund because their food didn’t look like in the menu. Taco Bell 🔔 in Littleton, CO.” The footage opens with an angry couple stood at the counter — a man in a white and black stripy t-shirt, blue cargo shorts, and white sneakers, and a blonde woman with a white Nike t-shirt and blue jeans — and to make things clearer, we’re just going to refer to them as Karen and Karl.
“That’s it? That’s it? Ahh, ahh, ahh, I want my food!” declares Karl, who is clearly not very pleased with the look of the food he ordered. Interestingly, from off camera, another man has entered the altercation, and he simply expresses, “Hey, come on, man,” likely because Karen and Karl are holding up the queue with their incessant complaints. They not impressed with the other man’s intervention, however.
“Come on, man. I don’t care. What’s up?” fires back the Karl, directed at the other male customer who is attempting to intervene. Oddly, however, the Karen is also holding up her phone and recording and she says, “The police are on their way, okay? If you pay for your food, you would want your money or your food” though it’s difficult to make out what she says at the end, as there’s quite a lot of background noise. The Karl, however, is adamant that he’ll get what he paid for, exclaiming, “I’m going to get what I’m going to pay for.”
Suddenly, though, tensions escalate even further, as the other man off camera yells, “Hey, shut the f*ck up!” This doesn’t go down to well with the couple. “I’m not gonna shut the f*ck up, you shut up. F*ck!” yells the Karl, with frustration in his voice. The Karen then questions why the man is trying to intervene. “You’re trying to do all this extra sh*t, for what? I’ve already called the police, so I really don’t care.”
The camera then shifts its focus to the other customer off screen, who is sporting a red Oakley t-shirt, grey cargo pants, and black boots. He approaches the couple in a confrontational way, and it looks like a physical altercation could happen, though the Karen starts talking loudly on the phone to the police, stating, “I just need another officer. There’s a man trying to fight me. There’s a man trying to fight me inside the store.” The man in an Oakley shirt brands the Karen a “f*cking b*tch” and the Karl fires at him dismissively, “You know what? F*ck him. F*ck you, p*ssy!” From behind the camera, you can hear a customer gasp in shock and say, “Oh my gosh.” under her breath.
The argument continues to intensify, with the Karen shouting at the Taco Bell employee, “I don’t care about the burrito. I just want my refund. I got you on video. Like, what are you talking about?” The Karl exclaims, “Are we gonna get a refund or what? ‘Cause I ain’t going nowhere.” From behind the camera, you can hear the customer recording say, “If this goes viral? Are you kidding me? Oh my gosh.”
As the footage continues to gain momentum online, social media users took to the comments to air their thoughts and reactions to the clip. Over on Reddit, a commenter wrote, “These people are trying to recreate “Falling Down”” while another chipped in with, “The workers at Taco Bell do not care about your piddly ass first world problem like the picture on the menu. I promise you, Karen and Kevin.” Another netizen added, “She’s calling the police because they won’t refund her food? What tf are the police gonna do?” while a fourth commenter simply chimed in, penning, “Karen & Karl“
It’s unclear whether the angry couple ended up getting a refund from Taco Bell, but one thing is fore sure: That’s hardly the way to behave when you’re sending your food back at a restaurant or fast food joint. Really, you should try and be as calm and polite as possible. Otherwise, ugly scenes like this can occur, and it’s not going to win you any points with the public or the workers if you’re being rude and combative.
