Game Scienceโs action RPG, Black Myth Wukong, will not be easy to port to Xbox, and the studioโs CEO and founder, Yocar-Feng Ji, has confirmed that optimization issues with the Xbox Series S are to blame.
The news surfaced after Feng Ji shared his thoughts on the gameโs success during a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. He went on to express his gratitude for Black Myth Wukong winning three Steam Awards in 2024, stating that the recognition made him feel โa little emotional.โ However, he also addressed the absence of an Xbox port, citing technical challenges with the Series S as the reason.
According to Feng Ji, the Series Sโs โ10G of shared memoryโ has become a major problem for the development team. He explained that achieving the necessary optimization for the platform would require โseveral years of optimization experience,โ which makes it unfeasible for the studio to release the game on Xbox, at least not anytime soon.
Reports of the Black Myth Wukong port facing challenges on the Xbox Series S have been circulating since last year, with speculation that the consoleโs hardware limitations were causing delays. While a Microsoft representative previously denied these claims, stating that the gameโs delay was not due to โXbox platform limitations,โ and that console exclusivity was to blame. But Feng Jiโs recent comments confirm that the Series Sโs memory constraints were indeed the issue.
Black Myth Wukong has been one of the most talked-about games in recent memory. The game got nominated at every award show, and even here at The Nerd Stash, it secured a stop among the Top 5.
While the game is available on other platforms, Xbox playersโparticularly those on the Series Sโwill have to wait indefinitely, if not permanently, for a port. For now, Game Science has its hands full optimizing the PC port, and adding the Xbox One to that means it will take quite some time.
