Gears of War 5 is letting players rev up those chainsaw guns a bit early with an action-packed technical multiplayer test this summer.

The tentpole franchise that launched on the Xbox 360 is back with its newest release. The last entry, Gears of War 4, came out three years ago and has sold over $3.3 million copies to date.

Gears of War 5 is scheduled for release on Sept.10 but this test is happening on July 19. Then, it will run through the 21st, before starting again on July 26th and ending on the 29th. However, it will be available for Windows 10 PC and Xbox One owners starting July 17th.

This multiplayer test for Gears of War 5 isn’t just for anyone though. The only ways to access this is through pre-ordering the game or having an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

The Rundown of What to Expect

A new generation takes the helm in Gears of War 4.

The multiplayer test is going to feature a host of modes for players to choose from. These modes are Arcade, Escalation, Bootcamp, and King of the Hill.

Bootcamp is there to help new players understand the bloody mess they’re about to get in to. Meanwhile, King of the Hill has players fighting over an area every round with whoever captures the most points winning. Then, we have Escalation which is the standard multiplayer competitive mode alongside the casual-centric Arcade.

There are also some in-game challenges under the name Tour of Duty. This new feature gives players items for completing tasks like a cosmetic banner to use in the full game.

These multiplayer tests are common for the series, not only as a way to check the servers but also wet players appetites. There’s a bunch of sweaty dudes out there right now itching to play as even sweatier giant dudes in Gears.

What are the best Gears of War game? What’s the top shooter to play on Xbox? Leave your comments!
