Geraldo Rivera went on The View Thursday morning to address his exit from Fox News. Rivera announced last month that he was leaving the conservative network after being fired from The Five. Rivera said this was related to a toxic relationship with one of the cast members. While Rivera did not mention a specific name, he had frequently clashed with co-host Greg Gutfield on-air. When The View co-host Sunny Hostin asked why Fox News couldn’t give him another show, Rivera responded that while they could have, “My ideology does not fit Fox.” He went on to describe other issues with Fox related to former president Donald Trump and another ousted Fox News cast member Tucker Carlson.

Geraldo Rivera recounted joining Fox News as a war correspondent after the 9/11 attacks. “I did 11 assignments in Iraq, 11 assignments in Afghanistan in the Mideast, Somalia, you know, every hot spot on the globe,” Rivera said. He went on to say that in 2011, he was “blessed” to announce that Osama bin Laden was killed, but also that he should have left the network then since his reason for being there was gone.

Rivera also lamented that “Fox had a moral crisis after the election.” Rivera has notably always been friends with Donald Trump, saying in 2020 after the election that he expected the former president to “do the right thing.” Rivera has now changed his tone, saying that losing the election made Trump “a crazy guy.” The now 80-year-old Rivera said, “I am vowed to dedicate whatever energy I have left in this profession is to ensure he is not ever re-elected president ever.” He cited Trump’s actions leading up to the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, calling his actions unforgivable and disqualifying.

For similar reasons, Geraldo Rivera criticized former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Rivera said he would never forgive Carlson for spreading misinformation regarding January 6. When The View co-host Sara Haines asked Rivera if Carlson’s plummeting viewership on Twitter is a sign that his influence is waning, Rivera replied, “I hope so.”
