Some players may not realize how big the news about the Legends mode coming to Ghost of Yotei is. This underrated multiplayer expansion, originally launched for Ghost of Tsushima, was one of the best we’ve seen in recent memory. You had most of the gameplay aspects from the single-player mode. Still, the difference was that you were now thrown into a co-op environment with other players with different classes to slice, kick, and shoot at enemies, while bringing home some loot to empower your characters. Now, with Ghost of Yotei on the horizon, players will get to experience that and more, and the best thing is that it will be free.
Ghost of Yotei Legends Will Arrive in 2026 as a Free DLC
Since the news is now old, I’ll instead focus on what the actual mode brought to Tsushima and how Legends could play in Ghost of Yotei. At the moment, we don’t have a lot of information, other than this free expansion is coming in 2026, and it will task players with defeating the Yotei Six, or rather, a giant version of them. Furthermore, we know that we’ll get two-player story missions and four-player survival matches. At a glance, it might seem like a few things, but that’s not the case. See, the Legends mode goes deeper than that. Story mode, for instance, offers intricate co-op missions that require players to solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and complete various challenges.
Survival, on the other hand, is a horde mode of sorts that requires players to face off against different waves of enemies until they reach the end. It is more frantic, compared to story mode, but also more rewarding. On top of that, a Rivals mode arrived that had two teams face each other as they defeated waves of enemies simultaneously and had to collect Magatama to hurt the other team. It was the closest thing we had to PvP, and it was a blast to play. It is uncertain whether this will be available in the Legends mode of Ghost of Yotei, but it would be amazing.
All the above things describe how this mode worked in Ghost of Tsushima, but with a new adventure on the horizon, I’m confident this co-op mode will be even better. We’ve already seen combat showcases for Ghost of Yotei, and everything has looked amazing so far. If Sucker Punch puts that into Legends, it will become one of the most unique multiplayer expansions of the year, and one that will enthrall many gamers who love some frantic co-op action without having to worry about PvP builds or something similar. Hopefully, we’ll get more news about this DLC after Ghost of Yotei launches in October. Because, while I’m excited to experience Atsu’s journey, I can’t wait to bring my friends along for some Oni-hunting antics.
