New seasons can mark a big change for a story or casting, but in this case, it is about where to find a show. Variety has reported that Girls5eva has moved from Peacock to Netflix for season 3. The first two outings of the series will be available on both streaming platforms.

The comedy music series follows a one-hit-wonder band from the 90s getting another go in the present day after a young rapper gives them recognition by sampling one of their songs. The series stars Sara Bareilles, Busy Phillips (Vice Principals), Paula Pell (Big Mouth), Renée Elise Goldsberry (She-Hulk), and Daniel Breaker (Billions). The finale of the second season hit its previous streaming home in June.

Girls5eva leaves Peacock and heads to Netflix for season 3

Girls5eva going to Netflix is fitting for the creator and showrunner Meredith Scardino. She and executive producers Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and Jeff Richmond as they worked on the streamer’s series The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Fey and Carlock co-created the series, Scardino served as a writer and executive producer, and Richmond was the composer and an executive producer.

Peacock found great success with Girls5eva, and that trajectory could keep going on Netflix. It was nominated for an Emmy for Scardino’s writing of the pilot in the comedy series category. It has received positive reviews from fans and critics for its songs, cast, and humor. The total percentage on Rotten Tomatoes for critics is 96%, with the audience score at 80%. The first season landed at 98% with critics and 77% with audiences. The second outing is at 95% for critics and 83% for audiences.

There are no details on the next season for new casting or a possible release window with a likelihood of it arriving in 2023. You can currently catch up on either streaming platform, with the third coming exclusively to Netflix.
