Hit the end credits on the memorably excellent The Ascent and hungry for your next cyberpunk fix? Daedalic Entertainment’s Glitchpunk, a top-down action game seeping with neon-drenched style, hits Steam Early Access today. Cast as an android whose internal circuitry’s gone awry, you set out against your better programmed judgment to topple oppressive governments and monolithic mega-corps on a carnage-ridden rebellious streak.

Unabashedly inspired by the top-down perspective of Grand Theft Autos of old, you’ll navigate a world of brutal gangs, overzealous cops, and seedy trans-humanist cults using either a whole lot of firepower, a spot of hacking, or a touch street smart diplomacy. Alongside, you’ll dart across several cities, starting with New Baltia in Glitchpunk Early Access, either on foot or employing all manner vehicles from cars and trains through to tanks.

Much like the original GTA games, Glitchpunk involves its fair share of frenzied police chases and very own escalating wanted level system that sounds as chaotic as it is fun. According to Daedelic, the experience is wrapped up in a compelling narrative touching on cyberpunk staples such as trans-humanism, fanaticism, xenophobia, and religion.

Glitchpunk Early Access Key Features

  • Brutal top-down action with a massive arsenal of weapons to choose from

  • Hacking system allowing players to control the minds of pedestrians and affect various devices.

  • Many different ways of locomotion, including trains, tanks, motorbikes, buses, trucks, and obviously tons of cars

  • Frantic police chases and up to 10 escalations of mayhem-inducing wanted levels

  • 12 gangs with their own stories, quests, and culture

  • Four different cities, from the desert remains of the USA to cyberpunk Soviet Russia in a post-nuclear winter (New Baltia at Glitchpunk Early Access launch, Outpost Texas 3 to 4 weeks post-launch, and two more to come!)

  • Mature story with several endings

  • Rare art style mix of 2D sprites in a 3D environment

  • In-game radio with music by artists from all over the world, together with news stations and absurd commercials

Once again, for those at the back, Glitchpunk is out today for PC in Steam Early Access with a cozy 20% launch discount to tempt fence-sitters.
