Gone Home, an award-winning, story-focused indie title, will soon be coming to consoles soon. The Fullbright Company announced today that Gone Home will make its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One debut on January 12, 2016.

This new version was developed by Fullbright, in-house, and will utilize the Unity 5 engine. This is an upgrade from Unity 4 used on the original game. It will, also, feature ninety minutes of behind-the-scenes developer commentary.

Gone Home for consoles has endured a shaky development cycle with financial issues hitting Majesco Independent, the game’s publishing label. Whatever financial issues the publisher faced have been resolved, thanks in partnership with Midnight City. Midnight City’s plan to publish Gone Home on consoles was, originally, announced way back in March 2014. However, Fullbright designer Steve Gaynor said, earlier this year, that the deal had “come to an end.” This left the console version “not actively in development” at the time. It appears that things have fortunately worked out in the end.

According to the Fullbright Company:

I think the above video pretty much says it all– but let me just say how excited we are to put the game in front of a whole new audience of players. Ever since Gone Home came out we’ve wanted to be able to bring it to people who maybe aren’t PC gamers, or don’t have a good enough computer, or who just want to play in their living room, maybe to share the experience with a friend or loved one from the comfort of their couch. Our goal wasn’t to add or change things, but just to bring the game that players know & love onto consoles in the best possible form we could.  We’re really excited for you all to get your hands on it!

Gone Home is set in the year 1995, and the plot focuses on the exploration of a mansion in Portland, Oregon, examining common household objects within the home. It is a game where you interactively explore storylines, of the human story, from one family, and what they have left behind.

I believe that games are an important form of entertainment, and that they can uplift and inspire millions of people around the world. I love JRPGs, and dabble in many other genres, especially MOBAs.
