Gypsy Rose Blanchard is opening up about the backlash following her pregnancy news last year. In a new preview for the second season of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up, the ex-con revealed she was shamed for having a baby with Ken Urker so soon after her breakup from her ex-husband, Ryan Anderson.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Reflects on Getting Hate After Her Pregnancy Announcement
On Thursday, Feb 27, Lifetime shared a teaser for the latest season of Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up. During the clip, Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Ken Urker discussed what it was like discovering they were expecting. Unfortunately, it wasn’t all positive. The couple wanted to be happy. However, the public’s reaction to their pregnancy made it difficult to celebrate.
Blanchard revealed she was called a “loose woman” for getting pregnant with Urker’s baby so soon after her split from Anderson last year. She said she even saw comments about people telling her she should have had her tubes tied as part of her parole following her release from prison. “They don’t feel like I’m going to be a good mother because of what my mom put me through,” she said.
Gypsy Rose Blanchard was subjected to physical, mental, and medical abuse from her mother, Dee Dee, all of her life. To escape, Blanchard and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, orchestrated a plan to kill her mother in 2015. Godejohn ultimately stabbed Dee Dee to death and was then sentenced to life in prison. Meanwhile, Blanchard received a 10-year sentence for her role in her mother’s murder. However, she left prison in December 2023 after doing seven years behind bars.
Following her release, Blanchard began a new life with her husband, Ryan Anderson, but then broke up with him just months later in March 2024. Shortly afterward, Blanchard had reconciled with Urker, her ex-fiancé. After reigniting their relationship, the pair announced they were expecting in July. Since they revealed their baby would arrive in January 2025, fans did the math and realized Blanchard must have gotten pregnant in April. This led many to believe that her baby daddy was actually Anderson instead.
Ken Urker Also Had It Hard
During the preview for Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Lifetime series, Urker said the backlash following their baby announcement also hit him hard. He said he was humiliated by the drama concerning the identity of Blanchard’s baby daddy. “I wish that she had gotten through this divorce process before this happened,” Urker said. “It’s not a good look for me. It’s not a good look for her.”
Luckily, Blanchard and Urker were eventually able to get over the hate and be happy over their baby. The teaser showed the couple celebrating the news by showing off their baby’s sonogram pictures.
Blanchard also shared her plans about becoming a good mother to her daughter. She said she was determined to have a better relationship with her baby than what she had with Dee Dee. “At some point, the cycle has to end, and I can break that,” she said.
Fans can learn more about Blanchard and Urker’s relationship when Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up returns in March.
