Hackers Have Already Breached Modern Warfare 3 Beta

When Ricochet can’t fight jailbreak abusers.

The Modern Warfare 3 beta is finally here, and before Xbox and PC players get to try the new weapons, PS5 and PS4 owners can deploy on the good old MW2 2009 maps. This is something related to Activision and PlayStation’s contracts, but did you know that hackers using PS4 consoles are already in Modern Warfare 3 beta servers?

Cheating in Call of Duty games has always been a thing. Many players have even left the multiplayer mode of the CoD games due to this.

However, most of the cheaters were always PC players who had more freedom to use different apps to get around the security walls. For this year, however, it turns out that releasing the new Call of Duty game on 8th gen PlayStation consoles was not a great idea.

For instance, many players tend to jailbreak their PS4 to get free offline games on it. This method is being used to do a workaround on PlayStation’s store and game purchase system, but recently it has led to many hacks on Modern Warfare 3 beta. Now usually when a PS4 user who has used the jailbreak connects to the internet, the server recognizes them and bans their console. However, it turns out that is not the case for every jailbroken PS4 that is being used out there.

A recent post by Charlie Intel confirms this issue, showing that in the PlayStation-exclusive beta period of Modern Warfare 3, there are some hackers around. In the video, it is obvious that the player seen in the killcam is using wallhack to see the others, and a percentage of aimbot to kill them off on sight.

Many players have reported that these people are in fact using unlocked PS4s to apply cheats on the game. PS5 has a better security system, making it a safe bet that no hacker will reach its zone for now. For PS4 however, there have been many hacks and breaks of its security and system from installing free offline games, to applying cheats by hackers to Modern Warfare 3 beta.

Now aside from the PS4’s security, this is definitely a problem that needs to be solved by Activision itself. The servers need an updated anti-cheat system that detects these players and kicks them out. Gratefully there have not been too many reports on the existence of such hackers in Modern Warfare 3 beta, but if the developers stop it now, it’ll become a very big issue later with the game’s full release.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is due to release on November 10, 2023.
