Recompile August Release Date Announced
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information.

Recompile, the newest Metroidvania-style title from developer Phi Games and publisher Dear Villagers, has announced it’s August release. Phi Dinh, game director of Recompile and founder of Phi Games, made the surprise release reveal during Gamespot’s Play For All 2021 Showcase. The trailer depicts the neon-laced fighting and puzzle-solving that players can look forward to in this hacking-based adventure platformer. The new guest track in the trailer from 65daysofstatic certainly makes it pretty difficult to not be hyped about the action.

The title is slated to cover topics such as machine sentience and the nature of choice. Players will be taking the role of a rogue piece of semi-sentient code stuck inside the Mainframe – fighting through a digital wasteland to defeat the Hypervisor, an AI who doesn’t take to kindly to the presence of others. The non-linear story will feature multiple endings with an emphasis on player choice. You will be able to repair systems, restore lost data, destroy them, or, of course, hack them in order to find the truth behind the original purpose of the Mainframe.

In order to find this truth you must use your super-powered abilities such as hacking the environment, time dilation, and jet-pack flight to defeat enemies and navigate the environmental circuitry and logic gates of the world. You also won’t be short on weapons, with a variety of futuristic firearms to choose from. The techno doesn’t stop with the trailer guest track either, as the whole game is set to feature a soundtrack of blasting electronic tunes.

For all the adrenaline-junkie semi-sentient viruses out there, Recompile will be releasing to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S (as well launching to Xbox Game Pass upon release) this August. You can wishlist the title on Steam .

Are you excited about the upcoming release of Recompile? How many programs do you think you will be cutting down in your journey to stop the Hypervisor? Let us know in the comments below!
