Michael Myers will never die, and neither will the Halloween series, despite Rob Zombie’s best efforts to kill it. In a move that shocks absolutely no one, a sequel to last years Halloween has been announced.

I say this like the film has just been announced, however, talks of a sequel to the 2018 Halloween have been going on since June when Danny McBride announced that the initial plan was to pitch and shoot two movies back to back.

“We were going to shoot two of them back-to-back. Then we were like, ‘Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This could come out, and everyone could hate us, and we’d never work again. So, let’s not have to sit around for a year while we wait for another movie to come out that we know people aren’t going to like.’ So, we were like, ‘Let’s learn from this, and see what works, and what doesn’t.’ But we definitely have an idea of where we would go [with] this branch of the story and hopefully we get a chance to do it.”

Waiting to see how the movie performed wasn’t a bad strategy, however, he needn’t have been worried. The movie grossed over $253million at the box office, allowing McBride to announce that a sequel was in the early stages of development in October.

Halloween

Things now seem to be ramping up a gear. Collider has exclusively announced that Scott Teems, writer of Firestarter, is in talks to pen the sequel that will see stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Andi Matichak all return.

The 2018 Halloween film was a real return to form. It saw original star Jamie Lee Curtis return to fight the original Michael Myers, Nick Castle who appears briefly as the killer. The bulk of the role was taken on by James Jude Courtney, a spritely 62 compared to Castle’s 71.

Halloween

The film managed to successfully do what this year’s Terminator film is hoping to do. It ignores the convoluted canon and goes back to being a sequel to the early film, giving it the freedom to do what they wanted and to be enjoyable. Something they managed quite well according to the box office and critic reviews.

Take a look at our review of it for more info and to see what we thought.

Not much else is know about the film at this stage. We will keep you updated when we know more. What do you think of a sequel? Are you happy, fed up of never-ending horror films, or, like me, are you just waiting for a new Nightmare on Elm Street?
