Halo Infinite will be getting cross-platform and cross-progression between Xbox and PC, Microsoft has confirmed. As can be seen in the Xbox Wire post released today, the goal is to, amongst other things, “build communities around games and not devices”. Here’s what Head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, had to say on the subject:

We know many of you play across more than just your PC, including on Xbox and mobile. Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re excited to announce Halo Infinite will support multiplayer cross-play and cross-progression when it releases later this year. That means if youโ€™re playing on PC, you can play with your friends on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It also means that your multiplayer customization and progress will follow you across all platforms.”

When it comes to the PC experience, Matt Botty had this to add:

We have been working closely with the PC community to ensure that Halo Infinite offers a premier PC experience, including highly desired features such as support for ultrawide and super ultrawide screens, triple keybinds, a wide variety of advanced graphics options and more. We want to make sure that Halo is serving the PC community.”

Lovers of the franchise should also be assured by his words regarding cloud-based gaming:

While not meant to replace native PC gaming, Xbox Cloud Gaming allows Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members to play over 100 console games on a wide range of computers, from lower-spec, entry-level machines to older devices that otherwise couldnโ€™t handle games that require more power.”

We all hate that scenario in which we don’t get to play with our friends or loved ones because of platform differences. This should remedy such problems, and for the most part, should be considered a good thing. Multiplayer problems aside, it is at least good news that it will still be free-to-play.

In other news, Miles Morales faces a clone of his own in this latest issue and, Bryan Talbot’sย Luther Arkwright willย be adapted as a live-action series.
