The 2025 Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo has been packed with major announcements. From a new Star Wars film starring Ryan Gosling to an animated series all about Darth Maul, there are so many exciting projects confirmed to be coming soon. One of the most exciting news of the whole weekend involved Ahsoka season 2. Get this: Hayden Christensen will be back as Anakin Skywalker.
Ahsoka Season 2 Adds Hayden Christensen
Hayden Christensen’s return was confirmed during the Ahsoka panel. Creator Dave Filoni, executive producer Jon Favreau, and the show’s leading star Rosario Dawson were all in attendance for the presentation. After talking about the inspiration behind the show and how Dawson became attached to the project, the trio began discussing the importance of Anakin and Ahsoka’s relationship. A brief scene between the characters played on screen, when all of a sudden, Christensen appeared on stage, shocking fans in the audience.
The actor recalled how exciting it was to return as Anakin Skywalker during the show’s first season before confirming he’ll be back for Ahsoka season 2. His appearance will mark the third time he’s returned as the Jedi in recent Star Wars history. Fans couldn’t be more excited to see him as Anakin again. “This is the best news,” one person said. “Anakin Skywalker is back,” another fan wrote.
He’ll Always Be Part of the Star Wars Family
Hayden Christensen first joined the Star Wars franchise over two decades ago. He made his debut as Anakin during the prequel film Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones in 2002. He then reprised his role in Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith in 2005. Christensen came back to voice Anakin in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019. However, he didn’t make another live-action appearance as the Jedi until the premiere of Obi-Wan Kenobi in 2022 and Ahsoka in 2023.
Since the latter takes place years after Anakin’s death, Christensen played him in flashback scenes and as a force ghost. He’ll likely do the same for the new season as the show further explores Anakin and Ahsoka’s relationship as master and student. After all, Ahsoka may need some help from her former teacher now that she’s got a padawan of her own.
Shooting for Ahsoka season 2 will begin next week. Apart from Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen, the cast will include Rory McCann. The Game of Thrones actor will take over the role of Baylan Skoll following Ray Stevenson’s death in May 2023.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo is also set to reprise her role as Sabrine Wren. Meanwhile, Eman Esfandi will return as Ezra Bridger.
