This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

There are a few pretty long Side Quests in Hogwarts Legacy that you’ll learn how to complete, like the Tale of Rowland Oakes. This quest will take you on a hunt through the Wizarding World for Adelaide Oakes’s relative, Rowland Oakes, who has gotten himself mixed up with the wrong Goblins and has disappeared. You’ll have to find a map of his trade location and track him down. You’ll encounter dozens of brutal Goblins and make some pretty long journeys throughout. So, without further delay, let’s get started!

Before you begin this quest, you’ll want to ensure you’re at least Level 10 and have completed the Helm of Urtkot Main Quest.

Speak with Adelaide Oakes

You can find Adelaide Oakes in the Transfiguration Courtyard within the Astronomy Wing of Hogwarts Castle. Speak to her, and she will tell you that Rowland has gone missing, and she’s very worried about him.

Find Rowland Oakes’s Campsite

If you follow the Side Quest marker on the map, you’ll arrive at Rowland’s Campsite in no time. The only problem is that Goblins have overrun it, and there seems to be no sign of Rowland.

Defeat the Goblins Occupying Rowland’s Campsite

Next, defeat the Goblins so that you can effectively search for Rowland.

Investigate the Campsite for Clues

Meanwhile, once the campsite is cleared of enemies, you can look around until you find two different clues that lead to Rowland’s location. The first is his journal, and the second is a map to the location where he was supposed to be trading. You can find an image of the map below:

Use Rowland’s Map to Follow His Trail

You won’t get a quest marker on your map in order to find the location, so you’ll have to go off of Rowland’s map. If you look at the map pictured above, there are three landmarks.

The first is a rock formation.

The Second Map landmark is a crooked tree.

The final Map landmark is a ruined castle, which is where you need to go for the next step.

Enter the Goblin Outpost

Once you arrive at the Korrow Ruins, aka the Goblin Outpost, you’ll find that there are loads of Goblins everywhere. Unless you want to take on dozens of Goblins at once, the best idea is to land on the second floor of the Outpost and make your way inside, fighting off enemies as they come at you.

Explore the Sorrow Ruins to Find Rowland Oakes

As you make your way through the Goblin Outpost, you will come across a Goblin Door that is sealed and needs to be powered to unlock it. Jump up on the ledge to the second floor, where there is a large furnace, pictured below, and cast a fire spell at it in order to light the furnace and unlock the door.

Then continue on through the outpost.

Find Rowland’s Wand

On your way to Find Rowland, you will come across a room that contains a desk. On the desk, you will find a wand that must be Rowland’s wand. Pick it up now to save yourself from having to backtrack to pick it up after you’ve found Rowland and talked to him.

Give Rowland His Wand

Hand Rowland his wand, and he will free himself from his cell, and the quest will be completed. Upon completion, you will receive 180 XP and an Appearance cosmetic item.
