On Tuesday night, Beyonce was involved in the USA Women’s Gymnastics team making history at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The team emerged as the winners of the Women’s Gymnastics final, taking home gold. However, much more than the team breaking the record as the oldest team to win at the Olympics, each member displayed unfathomable heights of greatness, especially Simone Biles. She broke the record to become the most decorated US Olympic gymnast ever. Her teammates — Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, and Jade Carey — were also worthy contenders who dominated the scoreboard for the four exercises.

However, while the athletes were undoubtedly the stars of the competition, they all seemed to be collectively influenced by Beyonce. For the big finale, Queen B’s music dominated the floor routines. However, her impact on the women’s team extends way beyond their music choice. From the start of the Olympics, Beyonce held the women’s hands to victory with her legacy.

It All Started With A YA YA Introduction

Before day one of the competition, Beyonce got fans geared up for the Olympics with an introduction. In a surprise video set to her hit song YA YA off the Cowboy Carter album, Bey officially introduced all the athletes of Team USA while singing praises of their feats. The stars of the video were, however, none other than the female gymnastics team. Dressed in a USA-themed bedazzled leotard, the music icon played along with the athletes, telling them, “Hello, girls,” to which they responded, “Hello, Beyonce.” Showing special love to Biles, she later said, “And I know you know my girl Simone. Born to fly, destined to inspire.”

Beyonce’s shout-out seemed to be the perfect boost for the women, who dominated Day One at Bercy Arena with her music. Biles took the lead, incorporating Delresto (Echoes) by Travis Scott, featuring Beyoncé with Taylor Swift’s …Ready For It? Sharing the inspiration behind her music choice, the renowned gymnast told NBC:

“Actually, my agent suggested Taylor Swift (and) then I found this Beyoncé song that I really liked and we kind of collabed it together … I do love Taylor Swift and I do love Beyoncé …. Those are my girls.”

Jordan Chiles towed a similar path but was more devout in her love for Queen B. She performed a floor routine to a medley of My House, Energy, and Destiny’s Child Lose My Breath. She took things a notch higher, adding choreography from Run the World to her routine.

It is no surprise that Chiles goes all the way when it comes to Beyonce, given her adoration for her idol. Way before the Olympics, the two-time Olympian started her competing season the Bey Way. She donned a leotard inspired by one of the singer’s looks during her acclaimed Renaissance tour.

Luckily, it’s been a two-way street for the 23-year-old. She is also equally adored by the 32-time Grammy winner. Bey gifted Chiles a signed copy of Cowboy Carter vinyl ahead of the Paris 2024 games. “Congrats to you Queen. I always watch you with pride and admiration. Thank you for repping us. Good luck to you,” she wrote. The singer signed off her note acknowledging their bond. “Love, your twin Beyoncé,” it read. It’s no wonder the slogan for her 2024 season is I’m That Girl, inspired by a song of the same name on the Renaissance album. She told Olympics.com:

“I’m that girl actually came from a Beyoncé song. I recently went to her show that she had in Houston and I just went to watch the documentary. It just inspired me a lot, because you know, a lot of people take for granted on who Beyoncé really is.”

A Bonus Nod From Other Countries

However, it wasn’t only American gymnasts that paid tribute to the Halo singer during the tournament. Rebecca Andrade of team Brazil, who came third, performed her routine to a mix of Beyoncé’s End of Time while Pauline Schaefer of Germany choreographed to Alien Superstar. A Ukrainian gymnast did a beam routine to Destiny’s Child Say My Name.

Beyonce’s impact during the 2024 Olympics reached a climax during the Women’s Gymnastics final. All the gymnasts who used her music during their performance walked home with medals. Chiles used a medley of Black Parade and My House, as well as the Renaissance tour version of Cuff It. Brazil’s Andrade, who has been described as a super fan, performed to Beyonce’s songs, and so did Biles.
