Another King of The Ironfist has started, and we’re delightfully performing combos with our favorite characters in Tekken 8. As ever, fighters all use their own unique style, and every move can be turned into a combo. But do you know how to dodge and block the enemy in Tekken 8? There are many ways to stop your opponent from attacking, and turn their show into punishment.

You can stand still or go backward to block in Tekken 8. This is a simple block, effective on all types of enemy attacks, including rage arts and special moves. However, you need to moderate the stand and crouch blocking. You need to learn your opponent’s moves to be able to block them. So if they’re attacking low, you should just sit to block their moves.

Learning how to simply block is an effective way of keeping your health bar untouched. However, if you could dodge the opponent’s move, they’d be left vulnerable to any attack you perform on them. Now there are three options for dodging instead of doing a block in Tekken 8:

  • Side Step: The first and easiest way to dodge the enemy is by doing a side step. Simply tap and hold the up or down d-pad buttons, and your character starts moving on the side. This is how you can change the flow of the fight and add a new direction that your enemy may not recognize. But remember, if your side step is late during the enemy’s attack, you won’t get a second chance to block.
  • Punishment: This system has always been in the fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Tekken. It means cutting an attack by performing a fast-frame move. You need to know your character’s moves and do a quick attack before the enemy lands his move. For example, a quick jab would stop a heavy flying kick from Marshal Law. Punishing the enemy’s move is very effective rather than doing a simple block in Tekken 8.
  • Parry: The parry moves are the ones that each of the Tekken 8 characters have. For example, Ling Xiaoyu has the back + Square/X button for parrying the enemy’s attack. There are also parry stances that some characters like Marshall Law have. Once activated, the enemy’s attack will be reversed automatically. However, you’d be defenceless against throws.

Tired of blocking and parrying? Try attacking using the armored moves. This trick was not featured in any of the previous Tekken games, and every character in this game has at least one of them.

The armored moves are the ones with the sign you see in the image above. Simply choose your character, and go to the move list on the pause menu to find your armored move. It has a red logo of a strong person.

Now performing armored moves is not recommended over the block in Tekken 8. If the opponent gets to learn your armored move, it’d be easily blocked and punished right after.
