After the crazy fights you’ve been experiencing in Monster Hunter Wilds, the encounter with Hirabami is a welcome change of pace. It is still a chaotic fight full of mechanics you need to learn, but it isn’t as challenging as Rey Dau or Nerscylla. Still, unprepared hunters might have a hard time taking down this flying creature and, if luck isn’t on their side, might attract a few other monsters to the bout. For that reason, we’ve compiled a few strategies to tackle this creature.

Hirabami Weaknesses

Hirabami is one of those Monster Hunter Wilds creatures with many weaknesses hunters can target, but it is a bit difficult to hit. While hunters with specific weapons will have an easier time, almost everyone can defeat this foe quickly as long as they bring the following elements:

  • Fire
  • Thunder
  • Poison
  • Sleep

Just like Nerscylla, Hirabami is also weak to Fire and Thunder. However, you don’t need to destroy one part first with a specific element. Both work perfectly here, so grab the weapon that has either of them. In terms of status effects, Poison and Sleep are also useful, with the latter being a preferred one. However, not a lot of hunters will have access to this status effect when they Hirabami for the first time.

Moving on to breakable and weak parts, Hirabami has a few. Its mouth is its weakest point, but hitting it will be the real challenge. Since the monster is always flying, you need to bring it down first. Instead, you can focus on the tail, which can be broken five times. Doing so will cause a lot of damage and let you obtain rare monster parts.

Hunt Strategy

During the first fight, you’ll need to separate the Hirabami group by using Large Dung Pods. Other encounters might not feature more than one Hirabami, but in case they do, always bring Dung Pods. After that, you should follow these steps:

  1. If you’re a melee attacker, focus on the tail.
    • The tail is the easiest part to attack, as it is always near the ground level. You can hit it easily and, most importantly, wound it until it breaks. It will take a few timed hits, but if you’re comfortable with your weapon, this should be an easy task.
  2. If you’re a ranged hunter, focus on the head.
    • As we mentioned, the mouth is the weakest point, but you can also break the head. As a ranged attacker, aim at these two parts to do more damage. You’ll bring the monster down in no time and will be able to get even more shots in.
  3. Use the floating rocks to your advantage.
    • Throughout the fight, you’ll move to certain areas with floating rocks. You can aim at them with your slinger and pull them toward you to hit Hirabami. Be careful, though, as you need to time the action right to hit the monster.

In truth, there aren’t any other challenging mechanics to watch out for. As long as you aim for the tail or head, you should be able to defeat Hirabami quickly. It has a few lethal moves, like a spinning attack, but as long as you dodge those, you’ll be good.
