If you encounter a boss with the Chromatic category in the game, run. Well, not really. These are the most challenging bosses you’ll face, yet they are some of the most rewarding. A few are usually variations of previous foes, while others are completely new. One of the first you’ll face in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the Chromatic Troubador, who, believe it or not, only has two attacks, yet they are enough to make your life miserable. That’s why we’ve prepared a quick guide to help you defeat it.
Chromatic Troubador

For starters, fighting the Chromatic Troubador in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will be a bit more challenging since you won’t have a lot of characters to pick from. Only Gustave, Maelle, and Lune will be available when you encounter the boss. Furthermore, it doesn’t have any weaknesses, so you’ll rely on abilities that break and also parrying attacks for increased damage. Here’s the strategy:
- The Chromatic Troubador only has two attacks: Tricky Shot and Trumpet Concerto.
- Tricky Shot is the most difficult attack. The Troubador will swing its trumpet around in a distracting manner, and you’ll think you’ll have to avoid the trumpet hits, but that’s not the case. If you look closely, the boss will launch two orbs in the air; those are the ones you need to avoid. For this combo, ignore the trumpet and wait for the orbs to either dodge or parry them.
- Trumpet Concerto is the easiest, as the boss will only attack with its trumpet. This one has a three-hit combo, and all hits have a similar timing, so dodge accordingly or parry if you feel comfortable enough with the mechanic.
When it comes to damaging the Troubador, focus on Gustave’s Overcharge and Maelle’s Virtuous stance skills, which break. Lune is there to provide healing and DoT damage through burning.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Chromatic Troubador hits like a truck. Two hits of any of its combos will be enough to kill one of your party members, so try to dodge everything. Also, parrying is a good option, but it’s better to dodge due to the timing of Tricky Shot.
Once you defeat it, you’ll obtain the Troubadim weapon for Lune (level 4), Chroma Catalyst x2, and Colour of Lumina x5.
