The Lampmaster is one of the most challenging main story bosses of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which has two phases and a few new gimmicks for players to learn. This foe might be the most difficult for those following the main story only. However, if you’ve tackled a few optional ones, beating this one won’t be as challenging. In any case, we’ve prepared a quick guide to help you beat it and progress through the game’s first act.
Lampmaster Boss Guide
Contrary to previous bosses in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Lampmaster has two phases and a few challenging gimmicks. Here, we’ll break down everything you need to do to beat it.
Before diving into the fight, grab the always faithful team of Sciel, Gustave, and Maelle. You can leave Lune on the bench, especially since there are no elemental weaknesses you need to target here. Gustave will be your buffer and sub-DPS with Overcharge, Maelle will be your DPS/Support, and Sciel will be the Healer/DPS.
First Phase

The first phase is the easiest of the two. It has a few attacks that debuff your characters, but it isn’t too challenging.
- The Lampmaster will start with a Dark Explosion. This move hits a character once, and if you fail to dodge, you’ll get hit with the Exhaust debuff.
- Exhaust prevents a character from gaining AP.
- After that, your characters will go, and you can use Gustave to apply Powerful to everyone, get Maelle on Virtuous Stance, and have Sciel apply stacks on the boss.
- The boss will also turn off its lamps and shoot bolts from them. It will attack four times, and the easiest way to know which lamp will trigger is by looking at its flame go off. Yet, the lamps shoot randomly, so just make sure to dodge whenever you see the flame coming your way.
- The Lampmaster will then perform a jump attack. Despite it saying “jump,” do not jump; instead, dodge normally to avoid the move.
- The Lampmaster will follow up with four lamp attacks.
- The Lampmaster will continue repeating the same moves, spamming the four-hit combo with its lamps, so just use the above techniques to beat the first phase.
Second Phase

The second phase is more challenging because it adds a puzzle of sorts to its moves, as well as a new combo. Here’s the strategy for this phase:
- It will attack four times for its brand-new flying combo. Parrying it can be difficult, so try to dodge it instead.
- After that, you’ll see a message saying, “Lampmaster performs a strange ritual with its lamps.” This is the gimmick we’ve been talking about.
- You need to pay attention to the order in which the lamps light up. Then, you need to shoot the lamps in that same order to interrupt the ritual.
- Lampmaster will also perform a new four-hit combo, attacking twice with each arm. This one is easy to parry.
- You will also encounter an actual jump attack, where you all need to jump together to trigger a counterattack.
Aside from the above moves, the second phase is straightforward, and the only challenging gimmick is the lamp ritual. If you fail it, the boss will hit you with a powerful attack, so either dodge or heal afterward if that happens.
Beating the boss will reward you with the At Death’s Door Picto (Level 8), Shape of Life x1, and Polished Chroma Catalyst x3.
