Getting across the vast overworld of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can be a challenge. Good thing you have your trusty Chocobos to get you through anything, literally. These Chocobos can fly over water, glide over canyons, and climb walls. When you enter a new region, you’re going to need a Chocobo in order to get anywhere fast. You’ll also need one if you plan on fast traveling anywhere on the map. Trust me, you’re going to be fast-traveling a whole lot.

Where To Get Every Chocobo in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Each region in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has a different Chocobo type that you need to round up. Each one, as well as the region that they’re from, are as follows:

  • Yellow (Grasslands)
  • Gray (Junon)
  • Orange (Corel Region)
  • Green (Gongaga)
  • Aqua (Cosmo Canyon)
  • Blue (Nibel Region)

Yellow Chocobo

The yellow Chocobo is the very first one that you capture in the Grasslands. Its name is Piko, and they are from Bill’s Ranch. Birds like Piko, who were bred in the grasslands, are ridden the world over and are considered Chocobos-of-all-trades. There aren’t any climbable cliff faces or water to glide over in the Grasslands, so don’t expect to do any of that with these Chocobos.

To get this Chocobo, just follow the main story where you’re asked to capture it. You’ll need to sneak up towards the Chocobo and ensure that none of the others in the area spot you. You can use rocks to distract the Chocobos so that you can make your mission easier. Just climb onto its back, and after a few seconds, you’ll have one of your own!

Gray Chocobo

In the Junon Region, you’ll be able to use gray Chocobos. These birds are able to climb steep surfaces with ease. Finding one for yourself is as easy as going south of Junon and Under Junon to the Chocobo Intel: Birds of the Mountain location. Here, you’ll need to complete a short mini-game where you are trying to approach the Chocobo you want to tame.

To succeed, you need to press the different buttons that activate moving carts for you to hide behind. Hiding behind the carts allows you to stay out of sight of other Chocobos in the area. When you get close to the gray one, you’ll be able to mount and tame it. Then, you’ll have your own Chocobo to fast travel across Junon.

Orange Chocobo

The orange Chocobo is probably the easiest to obtain of them all. When you finish up with the Costa Del Sol story missions, you’ll be able to travel through all of Corel. Before you do, you’ll want to make your way to the Rent-a-Bird Stables at the end of Costa Del Sol.

Here, you’ll be able to rent out a Chocobo and even get the Tropical Visor, Shawl, and Anklets for them to wear.

Green Chocobo

The green Chocobo is the only one that is given to you in the story. When you reach Gongaga and leave Gongaga, you’ll be able to use it as an alternative form of transportation besides the Buggy. These Chocobos can also glide, but after using the mushrooms in the region to jump high above the cliffs.

Aqua Chocobo

Cosmo Canyon’s Chocobos are able to glide using different wind turbines that are placed along the canyon. There are plenty of different tracks that you can take on to hone your gliding abilities. To grab this Chocobo for yourself, head over to the Chocobo Intel location just north of Activation Intel Tower 1.

You’ll be met with another mini-game that requires you to push carts to stay out of sight of other Chocobo. I felt that the Chocobos here were a little more forgiving since they could stare at you for longer periods of time without penalizing you. You’ll need to push the carts from one end, then when you pass the Chocobo, run around to the other end of the cart and pull it instead.

When you reach the end of the cart tracks, you will need to throw rocks to distract the Chocobo long enough for you to climb on top and tame it.

Blue Chocobo

Just as you enter the Nibel Region, you’ll find the Chocobo stomping grounds. It is located south of the Nibel Airstrip. However, this one caused me the most trouble. The mini-game to get this Chocobo requires you to sneak past two other Chocobos to get to the top of a cliff that overlooks the blue Chocobo. The cliff will have several Chocobo treats that you’ll want to pick up.

Carefully, you’ll want to aim and throw the treats in front of the blue Chocobo so that it can get closer to the area where you can safely capture it. However, there are nearby cacti that are inflating and deflating. If the Chocobo touches these cacti, it’ll get scared and turn back a little bit. The goal is to throw the treats close enough to where the Chocobo will see them but far away enough from the cacti that it won’t get hurt. You’ll be able to use this Chocobo to glide high above the waters using a jet stream.
