Like her brother before her, Melinoë can make use of Death Defiance to gain extra breaths of life and survive killing blows in Hades 2, which believe me is a must, especially when facing the hordes on the lower levels of Tartarus and the Titan of Time himself at the House of Hades. But how exactly can you unlock the passive? To help all who, like me, need all of the help they can get when either delving toward the depths or making the climb to Mount Olympus, here’s how to unlock Death Defiance in Hades 2, as well as how to upgrade the buff.

How to Unlock Death Defiance in Hades 2
You can get Death Defiance in Hades 2 by unlocking and then enabling the Eternity Arcana Card while at your Altar at The Crossroads. The card will cost you 20 Ashes and once unlocked, can be made available for 4 Grasp. As you can see below, Eternity is the second card on the third role. The quickest way to unlock the card can be done by simply unlocking The Wayward Son and the Titan, which will cost you a total of 11 Ashes.
Once triggered, each instance of Death Defiance will allow Melinoë to come back to life with 40% of her current maximum Health and Magick.
How to Upgrade Death Defiance and Get Extra Lives
After unlocking the Eternity Card, you can increase the amount of Death Defiance provided by it by first unlocking the Insights mechanic, a feat you can do by performing the Consecration of Ashes Incantation at the Cauldron. The Incantation will be unlocked automatically after you unlock a set number of cards and will cost 6x Ashes, 1x Cinder, and 6x Fate Fabric.
After performing the Incantation, you will be able to increase your Death Defiance amount by doing the following:
- Head to your Altar.
- Enter Insights by pressing its designed key (which you can see in the lower right of your screen)
- Expend 6x Moon Dust to increase your amount to 2. You can then further increase your amount to 3 by expending 12x Moon Dust and 1x Star Dust.
How to Increase Your Grasp Level and Get Moon Dust in Hades 2
You can increase your Grasp level in Hades 2 by expending Psyche while at your Altar. Moon Dust, on the other hand, can only be acquired after performing the Consecration of Ashes. Once you do so, you will immediately receive 3x Moon Dust and will be able to get more by purchasing it from the Wretched Broker for 80 Bones each.
