The Underworld is all that Melinoe has seen thus far. But with Chronos and the surface lands in trouble, can the Underworld’s Princess deny her vengeance? If she’s been on the surface for a while, the curse will drain her life force quickly, returning Melinoe back to where she was in the Underworld. For that, you’d need to extract Shadow to open the surface gate with the Permeation of Witching-Wards and permit Melinoe to survive up there in Hades 2.
Where To Find Shadow in Hades 2
Unfortunately, Shadow isn’t a material or resource you’ll find easily in Hades 2. You need to concoct this item in the cauldron. But first, you must have the recipe, which you’ll get by making progress in the story. Just make sure you choose the path to Chaos and interact with her; she’s the only one who knows the ingredients for extracting a Shadow in Hades 2.
After conversations with Chaos and unlocking the recipe, head back to the Crossroads, and interact with the cauldron. These are the ingredients you need to extract a Shadow and where to find them:
- 30x Ash: You’ll find Ash as easy as making progress through each run. Eliminating opponents or choosing the Ash gates provides you with the material you need.
- 30x Psyche: Same as Ash, you’ll find this item by fighting your way through Erebus. Choose the Psyche gates, and you’ll be rewarded after surviving the wave.
- 30x Fate Fabric: There are two ways you can find Fate Fabric in the game. The first and easiest method is to buy the item from the Wretched Broker in exchange for Bones. Bones are easy to find in Erebus, so you might be packing a ton of them already after you unlock the Shadow extraction recipe in Hades 2. The second way of gaining Fate Fabric is by meeting the Arachne in Erebus, who might offer the item to you.
How To Unlock The Surface Gate
With enough of each material at hand, you can extract one Shadow and make the first step toward unlocking the surface gate in Hades 2. You still need to find 3x Moly and 1x Cinder for the Permeation of Witching-Wards in Hades 2, however.
Moly is easily found in Erebus encounters. Look for items around the area after you wipe every round, and make sure you pick up everything. Cinder, on the other hand, is obtained after defeating Hecate in Erebus.
