This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

The worlds of Starfield would be nothing without all of the different resources and materials you can find. In many cases, whatever you cannot find somewhere on a planet is available at a vendor somewhere. That’s very much the case with Memory Substrate. This organic resource and crafting component is easy to find once you know where to look, so we made it easy and listed out where you can find Memory Substrate in Starfield and how you can use it.

Where To Find Memory Substrate In Starfield

You can find Memory Substrate from any of the following vendors. We included what planet and city you’ll need to head to as well:

  • Shepherd’s General Store
    • Akila City on Akila
  • Jemison Mercantile
    • New Atlantis on Jemison
  • UC Exchange
    • Cydonia on Mars
  • EC Distribution Center
    • New Atlantis on Jemison
  • Denis Averin
    • Cydonia on Mars

As is with most of the resources that you are able to purchase from different vendors in the game, there is a chance that some of these vendors won’t have the Memory Substrate when you go get it. If this happens, you’ll want to wait outside of the shop for a full 24 hours before trying it again. It might take a few visits, but you’ll eventually be able to find it for yourself before long.

Where To Farm Memory Substrate In Starfield

If you would prefer to farm for Memory Substrate, then you’ll want to try going to these specific locations in order to find Drone Filterers:

  • Bel II within the Bel system

Just kill these creatures and loot them from their bodies if they happen to have any. You’ll then be able to use them to create different things that could later benefit your outpost!

How To Use Memory Substrate

To use Memory Substrate, you’ll have to find an Industrial Workbench first and have a rank 4 in the Special Projects skill. Once you do, you’ll be able to create the following:

  • Substrate Molecule Sieve
    • Two Biosuppressants
    • One Molecular Sieve
    • Two Sterile Nanotubes
    • Three Memory Substrate

Once you have this, you’ll be able to craft the research project Domestication 2 as well as several outpost structures, including the Industrial Animal Husbandry Facility as well as the Industrial Greenhouse.
