  • Ignore the Quests & Join Events
  • Other Methods to Level Up Fast in Fallout 76

Fallout 76 isn’t like your previous Fallout games where you can just talk to NPCs, accidentally blow up a town, and then boom, max level. It takes a bit more action on your part to do the leveling. And that’s hard enough if you’re crawling out to the fallout into the loving arms of Super Mutants. So allow me to guide you to some of the most efficient leveling spots and methods to level up fast in Fallout 76.

Ignore the Quests & Join Events

Perhaps from levels 1-20, the quests are worth your time, but even then, they don’t give you a lot of XP or rewards compared to group events. Consider the quests as mere tutorials that you don’t have to do as you can still learn on your own in this sandbox game.

Most events have level recommendations, but since they are group activities, you can ignore them most of the time. If you’re new to the game, here’s how to join events:

  1. Open the map and look at the bottom left corner for events.
  2. Click on an event, and then look for the ‘join event’ button on its tooltip. This will automatically join the event and the fast travel is free.
  3. Try to join an event as early as possible in case its higher-level participants use Lunchbox items that give a 25 percent XP boost.
  4. Stick to high-level players if you don’t meet the level recommendation.
  5. Shoot any enemy you see. It doesn’t matter if you can’t kill them; just tag them so you can get loot and XP when they die.

Most events have a defense-type setup where you have to battle hordes of enemies. More dead enemies mean more XP, and you can even get higher-level loot if you join while under-leveled.

Eventually, you’ll run out of events per day if they don’t pop up too frequently. In such cases, we recommend other ways to level up fast in Fallout 76.

Other Methods to Level Up Fast in Fallout 76

These other ways and methods can be utilized in combination with public events. Some of them are also alternative leveling spots in the game in case you tire of doing events over and over again.

But hey, this beats crafting, scrapping, and questing. Do note that these are not as accessible as simply running in-game events with random groups. Some of them require preparation.

Grind in West Tek Research Center

West Tek is one of the most reliable XP farms in the game due to the high concentration of Super Mutants. And to maximize your grind, I recommend going there with a party or group. Other players might provide free Lunchbox buffs.

West Tek is on road 107 on the map, to the southeast, contrary to the name. It’s a facility that sits just outside the red area on the map. I don’t recommend going here until you’ve reached level 50 as Super Mutants are tough.

In any case, West Tek Research Center areas are instanced. Enemies respawn at around one minute after you leave an instance.

Once you’ve cleared an instanced area inside it, go to another instanced area (via door or elevator, as long as there’s a loading screen), clear it, and then move back to the other areas.

Boost Your Intelligence Stat

You can earn more XP in your activities if you have a higher Intelligence stat. There are also many ways you can buff up your Intelligence, some of which we’ve already mentioned above.

  • Wear Unyielding Legendary Armor
  • Egg Head Mutation
  • Brain Bombs
  • Berry Mentats (also lets you see enemies through walls so it helps in West Tek)
  • Intelligence/Leader Bobblehead

XP Boosts

There are also items and buffs that can boost your XP in Fallout 76, leading to a faster leveling process, especially if you’re farming events. Make sure to pop these off before you grind an event or a location.

  • Well-Rested buff (gained from resting on a bed)
  • Lunchbox
  • Eat Canned Meat Stew, Cranberry Relish, or Tasty Squirrel Stew
  • Public Team Goals
  • Inspirational Perk (Charisma)
  • Live & Love Magazine
  • Nuka-Cola Cranberry

Take Over Workshops & Defend Them

This one involves a lot of work with setting up your defenses and might not be in your favor if you’re solo. However, enemies will be rushing to your workshop and that usually means you don’t have to hunt them for XP.

Before doing this, you can also join a group and still play solo if you prefer. That way, you’ll still get the buffs. Best of both worlds.
