Like in most games, XP is key inย Minecraft. It helps youย enchant armor and weaponsย and even recover durability for your items. But if you’ve noticed that the experience bar hasn’t increased much, it’s time to change tactics. The best way to gain more is learning how to make an XP farm inย Minecraft, and thankfully, there are a few easy ways to do it. This isn’t a complete list of every way you earn experience points in the game, but we want ways that are efficient and straightforward.

Make an XP Farm in Minecraft With a Spawner

One of the most common ways to farm XP in Minecraft is to build one around a spawner. In survival mode, you must track down an existing spawner and design your farm around it. Dungeons are the perfect places to locate them. We strongly recommend using zombie or skeleton spawners. They’re much easier mobs to deal with when you want to farm XP without much risk to yourself.

Once you find your spawner, it’s time to transform the area into an easy Minecraft XP farm. Remember to set a torch on the top center part of the box so that nothing spawns while you’re working. To design the farm, take the following steps:

  1. Gather your materials
  2. Build a structure centered with the spawner
  3. Reap the rewards

Materials Needed for an XP Farm

The specifics of your XP farm will determine the exact amount of material you’ll need in Minecraft. However, it’s a good idea to bring these items:

  • Slabs
  • Stones
  • Ladders
  • Torches
  • Hopper
  • Water
  • Dirt or Soul Sand
  • Chests

Building the Structure

The easiest way to deal with mobs from a spawner farm is to flood the room with water. So, mine out the area with the spawner to make it just deep enough to hold a few blocks of water. It instantly damages mobs like skeletons and zombies. Still, it can take some time to direct a water stream to lure the enemies. You want to make sure the spawned mobs have only one place to go: the killing chamber. So, direct your stream to follow any path you’d like that will drop them down.

With a killing chamber, you control the overall flow of the mobs and have successfully built yourย Minecraftย XP farm. Before this all starts, you must build an alternate path returning to the spawner. This lets you destroy the torch so you can start your XP farming event. Seal that way off, though, so that mobs don’t surprise you and spawn where you don’t want them to be.

Reaping the Rewards

As the mobs drop into your kill chamber, you should only have to hit them once or twice before they succumb to their earlier injuries. This is why the chests are helpful to bring. Your XP farm will net you experience points, but you’ll also gain a lot of helpfulย Minecraftย mob loot. So, have a few chests on hand to hang out with you in the killing room.
