One of the new gimmicks in Diablo 4 Season 8 is Boss Powers. If you played during the Season of Witchcraft, they are quite similar. Here, you defeat a boss, loot their power, and use it to obtain passive effects. Some will drastically affect how some of your skills work, and as usual, they come in different rarities. In case you didn’t see the game’s tutorial or just want to have a guide at hand, here’s how to obtain Boss Powers in Diablo 4 Season 8.
How To Get Boss Powers

As the name implies, these powers come from Bosses. However, you obtain them differently depending on the rarity or the boss. Here’s a breakdown:
- Magic Boss Powers: Drop after defeating Apparition Incursion bosses in any difficulty. There are 10 of them.
- Rare Boss Powers: Drop after killing Lair Bosses, World Bosses, and Belial’s lesser form. There are nine of them.
- Legendary Boss Powers: Drop from different high-ranking bosses in Torment I and above. There are five of them, and some of the bosses include Lilith, Duriel, Belial, and more.
When starting, it is recommended to grind Incursions. This is the easiest way to obtain the starting Boss Powers in Diablo 4 Season 8 before you move on to boss-hunting.
Upgrading Boss Powers

Upgrading Boss Powers is quite easy, and as long as you participate in Apparition Incursions, you should have the necessary currency. To upgrade them, you’ll need Spectral Ash. You can obtain this currency by defeating enemies during the abovementioned events, and upgrading Boss Powers will have different costs depending on the Power’s rarity. For instance, upgrading a Legendary Power from Rank 1 to 2 will cost 25 Spectral Ash compared to the 15 Spectral Ash cost of a Magic Boss Power from Rank 1 to 2. So, start grinding Incursions as soon as you spawn in this new season to accrue some currency.
