During your adventures in Starfield, you’ll stumble upon numerous unique companions. These characters have backstories, motivations, likes, and dislikes that affect their standing with you. They even have skills that affect how well they serve on your spaceship or outpost. And if you play your cards right, it’s entirely possible to romance companions in Starfield and, for some, marry them. But to get to that point, you’ll likely need a helping hand. This guide teaches you how to romance all companions in Starfield!

Here’s How to Romance All Companions in Starfield

Like most other Bethesda RPGs, Starfield features a relatively straightforward romance mechanic. You’ll choose a companion that interests you most, then travel with them, tackling quests and conversations. By picking the appropriate dialogue and game choices, depending on the romantic interest’s moral code and likes/dislikes, they’ll start to like you more with every action. You can turn from friends to boyfriend/girlfriend to a married couple.

As of right now, there are four primary romanceable companions in Starfield:

  • Sarah Morgan
  • Sam Coe
  • Barrett
  • Andreja

This roster of romantic interests will likely expand with future content, though.

How to Romance Sarah Morgan

  • Recruitment mission: The Old Neighborhood
  • Skills: Astrodynamics 4, Lasers 3, Leadership 2, Botany 1

Sarah Morgan is one of the most straightforward companions to romance and eventually marry. Her Leadership skill means she gains affinity with the player much easier, so long as the correct choices are made in dialogue and quests.

To start, you must complete ‘The Old Neighborhood,’ an introduction quest for Constellation that pairs you with Sarah Morgan as a companion. Afterward, when she offers to travel with you from here on, take her up on the offer. She’ll like you more, opening the door to a romantic relationship. While traveling with Sarah, you’ll want to perform as many good deeds as possible, show your commitment to Constellation and exploration as a whole, and avoid unnecessary combat or cruel actions. She also enjoys science to a degree, and dialogue choices pertaining to the field will earn her favor.

  • Sarah loves it when you praise Constellation.
  • Show a sense of curiosity and exploration.
  • Try to resolve conflicts in the most diplomatic manner possible.
  • She does not tolerate underhanded tactics, though she does have a strong sense of justice.

Eventually, the ‘Flirt’ dialogue option will appear in conversation, and you absolutely want to select it. Sarah will reveal a bit more about her past, including her time as a pilot for the United Colonies Navy. However, her tenure didn’t end well, and her ship crash-landed on a nearby planet, losing the entire crew in the process. Or, so she thought. Sarah will request your help visiting the crash site to say her final goodbyes in the In Memoriam companion quest, but you’ll discover that some crew survived. A young girl is left behind, and you can take her home with you or leave her behind. Take her with you. Sarah will like this option, which will help cement your relationship status.

From here, continue to raise Sarah’s affinity through dialogue options until the ‘Commitment’ choice appears. You’ll then receive the ‘Commitment: Sarah’ companion quest to marry her!

How to Romance Sam Coe

  • Recruitment mission: The Empty Nest
  • Skills: Piloting 4, Rifle Certification 3, Payloads 2, Geology 1

If you prefer the more rough-and-tumble type of romance, Sam Coe of the Freestar Collective likely caught your eye. To romance Sam Coe in Starfield, you’ll first need to complete ‘The Empty Nest’ quest for Constellation. Furthermore, like Sarah Morgan, Sam leans morally good in his actions and preferences. As such, you’ll want to perform good deeds, de-escalate conflict using dialogue and persuasion, and be kind to Cora Coe.

  • Take some time to ask about Cora Coe whenever possible.
  • Ask about Sam’s personal thoughts on situations.
  • Sam loves exploration and his past as a Freestar Ranger.
  • He immensely dislikes pirates and loves it when you take down any.

Pro tip: Cora will eventually ask you for books or money to buy books; give her the credits!

Like with Sarah, the higher you raise Sam’s affinity, the sooner the ‘Flirt’ dialogue option will appear. Always take the opportunity to flirt with your romantic interest in Starfield, and eventually, you’ll receive the ‘Listen to Your Hart’ companion quest for Sam Coe. Once you complete this quest, the ‘Romance’ dialogue appears.

Continue to raise Sam’s affinity through good dialogue and game choices, then choose the ‘Commitment’ option when it pops up in conversation. This dialogue choice will, like previously, unlock another companion quest. The ‘Commitment: Sam Coe’ quest ends with the two of you happily married!

How to Romance Barrett

  • Recruitment mission: Back to Vectera
  • Skills: Starship Engineering 4, Particle Beam Weapon Systems 3, Robotics 2, Gastronomy 1

As perhaps one of the most exciting and eclectic companions available, Barrett has won over countless players for his charm and enthusiasm. To romance Barrett in Starfield, you must complete the ‘Back to Vectera’ quest via Constellation. Then, continue to raise his affinity by showing a firm commitment to Constellation, performing good deeds, and avoiding fights whenever possible. Like most other members of Constellation, Barrett prefers persuasion to bullets.

  • Whenever possible, select kind dialogue choices and avoid turning to violence.
  • Keep him as a companion.
  • He enjoys a good joke and loves it when you play off his dialogue like an improv.
  • Avoid asking about Ervin, his former husband, in the beginning.
  • He doesn’t mind a little rule-breaking.

As his affinity rises, so too will the opportunity to ‘Flirt’ with Barrett. Whenever it appears, choose that dialogue option. Eventually, it will lead to the ‘Breach of Contract’ companion quest, which ends with a ‘Romantic’ dialogue choice. As per usual, select it.

You’ll now find yourself in a romantic relationship with Barrett, though that’s not the end of the path. The’ Commitment’ dialogue choice will eventually appear by continuing to raise his affinity via the methods mentioned above. Select this, then complete ‘Commitment: Barrett’ to marry him!

How to Romance Andreja

  • Recruitment mission: Into the Unkown
  • Skills: Stealth 4, Particle Beams 3, Energy Weapon Systems 2, Theft 1

Lastly, we have Andreja. She’s a bit of a wild card in Constellation and doesn’t mind when the player takes the dirty route to complete an objection. But there’s a fine line when it comes to romancing Andreja in Starfield.

First and foremost, you’ll need to complete the ‘Into the Unknown‘ quest to meet and recruit Andreja. From there, raise your affinity with her by occasionally stealing items, intimidating your enemies, and showing commitment to House Va’Ruun.

  • Andreja had a rough life and, as such, does not shy away from intimidation and bullying. She occasionally prefers brute force.
  • However, outright cruel actions against innocents are one way to shut her down completely.
  • When dealing with Captain Petrov in ‘No Sudden Moves,’ intimidate him and follow up with the brash response dialogue choice to boost Andreja’s affinity.
  • Andreja likes independence and actions deemed as striking out on your own.

Like always, as her affinity rises, the ‘Flirt’ option will inevitably appear. Select it at every possible opportunity to push forward with her romance path. Eventually, doing so will lead to ‘Divided Loyalty,’ her companion quest, which ends in a ‘Romantic’ dialogue option.

Then, continue to raise her affinity before choosing the ‘Commitment’ dialogue choice, which culminates in the ‘Commitment: Andreja’ companion quest to marry her.

Hopefully, this guide helped you to romance all companions in Starfield. Best of luck, captain.
